Obituaries almost never include cause of death, but sometimes you can guess from the suggested charity for donations in lieu of flowers.

Lol. I assumed this was about purity culture manuals, but apparently not.

"For married women, it gives unrealistic expectations of sex, often leading to disappointment in our marriages...For unmarried women, these books will do nothing but give you unrealistic expectations for when you do get married."

Awkward experience with a homeless man on my way back from lunch. He was struggling with his wheelchair and needed some help getting to the next block. Not a particularly pleasant encounter, but fine.

My coworker who is leaving on maternity leave in a week is micromanaging a person who reports to me. It's making me itch.

Ok quick! If you were a 60 year old woman and retiring after 20 some years in the public service in a data-heavy leadership role, what kind of gift would you appreciate from your team?

One of my teammates is suggesting the tackiest possible retirement themed knickknacks and I'd like to counterpropose something.

Hmm. No on seperation, but yes on xenophobia. No on seperation, but yes on cruelty. No on separation, but yes on voter suppression. No on separation, but yes on corruption. Have I got this right?

The orthodontist's automated email system, helpfully: Don't forget, you have an appointment on Wednesday! Google's automatic calendaring system, helpfully: This appointment conflicts with another one in your calendar! Me: Uh...That's the same appointment. The one I was being reminded of.

Voting this morning was a bit of a zoo. Provincial early voting and municipal in the same slightly too small space made things...Awkward. On the bright side, both are done now.

I realized that the next time we have a municipal election, my kid will be old enough to vote. If he's still here. So that was weird.

I had a job helping a farmer's market vendor. I lasted exactly one week. I was told I would be doing set up, tear down, stocking, and importantly not much interaction with customers. Turned out they wanted me to make up information about vegetables to tell people.

Hmm. An observation about the local election: the people I'm voting for are also the people I've seen or actively campaigning. All the non-incumbents I plan to vote for have physically showed up at my door. And a lot of the incumbents I plan to vote for I've seen out talking to people.

Here's how I know it's time to take a sick day. I am myself "would you like to stay home and work on one of your many neglected hobbies?" If the answer is "No. Can I just go back to bed instead?" Then I'm calling in sick to work.

To be clear, from a work perspective, I can absolutely take another sick day. It's everything else in trying to do.

I have recieved a flyer from a local church. They advertise KJV only preaching and "family values" They will be relieved to learn I will not be joining them.

Time for another workday ranting about this terrible software. If you are an academic doing certain kinds of simulation modeling, you may find yourself encouraged to use the software AnyLogic. Don't.

It looks handy: nice graphical interface, good for illustrating and explaining your results. It's commonly used in your academic circles, surely you can also use it in collaborations outside academia. No. Stop. Do not. It's a trap. An expensive trap.

Further, if you are a grad student using AnyLogic, (or MATLAB, or any other proprietary software) and there's a chance you're not headed for a tenured career as an academic: Learn an open source way to do the things you know how to do. I know, it's annoying. Do it anyway.
