Klobuchar picking a running mate got me thinking about one of my favorite political lines. When Jimmy Carter picked Walter Mondale for VP, a rap on Mondale was that he wasn't an energetic campaigner. In response one of Mondale's staffers told a reporter: "He'll make a hummingbird look sluggish."

I was also wondering if Angie Craig would trot a line that Tim Walz(going from memory can't verify the quote) used about the DFL endorsing convention in 2018. (An endorsement he didn't get of course.) "The only the things in the middle there were me and a dead skunk."

Finally, I think politicos should be a little more realistic and humble about what effect their endorsements have on the electorate. Quoting LBJ (from memory again) who told this to a northern Democratic colleague: "I'll campaign for you or against you, whatever helps most."

With Angie Craig now not seeking DFL endorsement for US Sen. in Rochester, it will essentially be Flanagan's convention. But if the Flanagan delegates start playing games with the endorsement for Gov. (denying Klobuchar a 1st ballot win) they'll only hurt the credibility of Flanagan's endorsement

Look, I haven't taken a side in the MN US Senate DFL endorsement/primary. But I will say that the anti-Craig ads I've been seeing on TV from something called Clear Voice MN (assume it's a Flanagan PAC) make it far less I will support Flanagan.

Thought for the day. Don't be a chickenshit. (From the Atlantic- Lower than Cowards-Adam Sewer)." In many cases, those folding have had ample resources to resist Trump’s shakedowns but haven’t been brave enough to do so. They are, in a word, chickenshit."

Trying to wrap my arms around what a rural MAGA voter would say if contacting Congress in support of this bill. Please shutdown the only hospital within 30 miles of me. Please make my health insurance more expensive. Please give more tax cuts for billionaires. Please make my life suck.

I recall the Tea Party protester with the sign "Keep your government hands off my Medicare." I'm sure there's the same level of ignorance out there, and some who will always fall in line behind TACO Don. But my sense is that a lot aren't paying attention because this bill really is a shit sandwich.

Here we go again. The front page headline in today's Star Tribune today read "Layoff notices sent to state workers.' It's like clockwork: Divided government returns/lawmakers deadlock over a budget/ threats of a government shutdown result. Didn't see that one coming did we? Enough.

What we need in MN is an automatic continuing appropriations law that authorizes state funding to continue if a biennium budget is not reached. Shutdowns cost money. And why should state employees always be caught in the middle? Wisconsin and NC have this. MN needs it too.

You are up to date.
