Chitlins definitely aren’t for everybody, and that’s fine, not everyone wants their dinner to come with a backstory and a strong opinion about hot sauce. But sometimes I hear the dislike voiced with such dramatic intensity that I start wondering if it’s really just about pig intestines,

or if there’s a little cultural baggage mixed in. People are allowed to hate chitlins in peace lol, but every now and then, the reaction feels like it might be about more than the smell. Or, maybe I’m reading too much into it and the chitlins simply lost the fight lol.

preparing for what comes next. Grief is like winter, too. It can make the world feel still and unfamiliar, and it asks us to move gently through days that once seemed ordinary. We may miss the warmth of the person we’ve lost as keenly as the sun in the cold months.

But love does not disappear with them. It settles into us, like fallen leaves enriching the earth, and becoming part of the strength from which new growth can come. Spring does not erase winter, just as healing does not erase loss. The seasons turn in their own time, and so do we.
