I’ve missed my family’s Charleston accent… it has long faded away in that city. So when my father died, I was arranging his burial in his hometown outside Charleston, and sexton of the church spoke to me with an ancient Charleston drawl — well, I recorded the conversation.

This doesn’t seem particularly reasonable. AI may be a creative shortcut, but it’s not necessarily inaccurate. In most cases, it’s a time-saving tool.
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

I read about insurgencies on both left and right who feel that their moment has come to take over their parties because people are unhappy with current leadership. But being unhappy with current leadership doesn’t translate into a hunger for something more radical. They want better moderates.
This is a well-known story in New York real estate circles, and is just one of the reasons why the New York real estate community has always looked on Donald Trump with disdain.
I used to be a science journalist. We got letters all the time from people who claimed to have solved antigravity, quantum physics, and perpetual motion machines. Now the loony kooks have podcasts and lots of gullible followers. There’s a sucker born every minute.
Imagine being an investor who just dumped a half million into Anthropic private equity to discover that the money went right out the back door.
This is the kind of pollyannish magical thinking that causes kills entire industries. Americans are already flooding the London real estate market, and Florida is full of relocated New Yorkers. France and England have long experiences with tax expats. The past does not predict the future.
My prediction: sometime in the near future, we are going to learn that Donald Trump is having the Treasury use these extorted revenues from American taxpayers and companies to buy cryptocurrency that he owns. It is a gigantic theft from the American taxpayer.
I’m feeling so “who cares” about the poor, pierogi-deprived Alan Dershowitz right now …
Oh, Abbott should absolutely remove all the Democrats from the Texas legislature and prosecute them as criminals. Absolutely. Then we should watch as Texas comes to a standstill from protests, boycotts, and statewide strikes.
Next, he’ll be suing a bakery for refusing to make a wedding cake for his – oh wait a minute.
Those of us who actually believe and invest in free markets see this for what it is: anti-competitive, anti-capitalist protection behavior designed to maximize profits to the US government at the expense of its citizens
We aren’t adding any more to our scholarship at Columbia while there’s a risk of that money being used for payments to the Trump administration.
Such organizations should now incorporate overseas in countries where such meritless lawsuits aren’t so easy to file.
Between Musk & the Trump administration, Media Matters has been squeezed to the brink. In settlement discussions, lawyers for X demanded the organization hand over all its cash and shut down — all because MM reported ads appeared on X next to antisemitic content. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/25/u...
We have moved on from voodoo economics to voodoo medicine: the government is now the source of disinformation, and Americans will pay the price in degraded health for years. I predict medical tourism will skyrocket — if not outright expatriatism.
"What Sam Altman is saying is that his plan for solving global warming is to build a machine that nobody knows how to build and can’t even define and then ask it for three wishes."
...or, perhaps, the numbers reported are not what they seem.
“He hasn’t got the balls to be a border patrol agent. This guy lives in his mother’s basement…I guarantee you he sits down to pee.” Spoken like a man compensating for a small…hand.
Chasing people to their deaths is functionally equivalent to murder.
“The fact that this story engendered all the conversation and debate that it has feels like all the evidence you need that this was a legit line of reporting,” one senior reporter told Semafor. Cheap reasoning. That’s the definition of social media. Not news. www.semafor.com/article/07/0...
