#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 66 - Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut (2025) A big grand spectacle that somehow feels claustrophobic. It’s cool and all, but for all the painstaking detail, it still feels somehow hollow. Still, i recommend, though yearn for the simplistic darkness of an OG Universal.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 65 Bonus - Asylum Blackout (2011) I’m a big (and perhaps only) fan of the films of S. Craig Zahler and this is his 1st writing credit, which already illuminates his strengths (creative psychotronic mutilation) and weaknesses (the main characters are in a band).

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 65 - Deranged: Confessions Of A Necrophile (1974) DANK!!! Moody 70’s ennui permeates this creepy Ed Gein retelling where Roberts Blossom goes to town as the 1st avatar i’ve yet seen to actually look like him. Perfect viewing companion to Martin (1977). Signage!

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 64 - Orphan (2009) I thought this was gonna be some supernatural bullshit, but it was based on a real thing that happened and was much better than i expected, but not to worry, i’m sure the prequel will disappoint.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 63 - How To Make A Monster (1958) While watching this, i was thinking that this had greater lapses in logic than the average Ed Wood film and it turns out the studio ripped off a script he sent them and then they fucked over the mask maker as well,

which is rich because the plot is about a mask maker getting revenge on the actual studio that made this (Ed’s og story was it Lugosi as an aged-out actor) and it becomes a meta Teenage Frankenstein Meets Teenage Wolfman of sorts.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 62 - Man Finds Tape (2025) This found-footage mockumentary would be pretty good if 80% of the acting wasn’t like fingernails on a blackboard.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 61 - Geek Maggot Bingo (1983) Zacherle! Richard Hell! A dog barking just off camera! Super cheap and fun effects! A Spray-painted cat that steals the show! It’s a Nick Zedd, so it was probably filmed in a squat with a stolen camera and looks like it was a blast.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 60 Bonus - Crystal Lake Season One (2026) How can this be good, let alone induce empathy? I set the bar low, but was pleasantly binge-pilled. My only note is YES, I KNOW, IT’S THE 70’S, I GET IT.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 60 - The Innocents (2021) This was very good, but goddam it’s a harrowing watch. Trigger warnings all over the joint.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 49 - Koji Shiraishi’s Never Send Me Please Volume One (2024) Found Footage anthology. Pretty lightweight and impressed with itself, but thankfully short, as i have been driving around all day.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 48 - The Sadness (2021) Yeah, this is the film i confused with The Wailing. Very different movie. I’d seen this, but didn’t remember how gnarly it was. As close to Garth Ennis’ Crossed as i’ve seen.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 47 - Monster From Green Hell (1957) I usually enjoy a giant insect movie, but Jim Davis is a real dipshit on this, held together with stock footage and smokes. Lots of exploitative “great white hunterl” type bullshit. The monster is boring and barely in it. No fun.

Btw, Hetfield complaining about other bands complaining from the stage of history’s most entitled venue is the ultimate punching down.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 46 - Isle Of The Dead (1945) Karloff is a general stuck trying to keep a small group of people from leaving a plague-filled island until the all-clear, despite their dipshit arguments. Atmosphere of despair. Time for bed.

Not sure how coherent i was on this day.

Some distraction from dystopia with a brand-new episode of Beginnings... Great talk with @robcrow.bsky.social of Pinback & Goblin Cock and so many other bands! Turning trauma into art, the Pine Barrens, schoolyard bullies, heavy sighs, needing to be honest + MORE! 🎧 tinyurl.com/BeginningsRo...

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 45 - Caveat (2020) 3 for 3 with this Damian McCarthy guy. Another perfectly lit, well paced and superbly acted film. I enjoy his common themes. Looking forward to whatever he does next.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 44 - Oddity (2024) Another one from the Hokum guy. This one’s good too! (For many of the same reasons) I like to follow the Prime Directive and not spoil plot on the well written ones, ‘cause i hate spoilers, but can go pages on my beloved Films Of Lower Brow.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 43 - Hope (2026) The scale of this thing. I don’t wanna say too much, a half hour in i was already thinking this was an all-timer. When cgi has to be implemented, it is not the best, but the design and everything surrounding sells it. Can’t wait to watch it again.

Finally finished my library, collating thousands of books into an app & back onto my shelves with still boxes of boxes of doubles and overstock. Now I’m correcting all my app mistakes & trying to Tardis my office into finding more impossible space.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 42 - Hokum (2026) So much better than it looked! Usually a film this thick with atmosphere leans on it like a crutch, but this is an intriguing story breezily paced, all the acting is great (especially “Jerry”) and some Sacred Harp thrown in there for good measure.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 40 Bonus - Beware: Children At Play (1989) Filmed in my beloved Pine Barrens, this is a mostly boring bad-actor wasp-fest, but i am here to tell you, friends, that the last five minutes are perhaps THE GREATEST IN ALL BADFILM HORROR HISTORY!

I watched with director’s commentary and this motherfucker just sits there and watches the movie. Seriously, will go about about half an hour without saying anything unless he’s on screen and then he dadjokes something like “where’d they get this guy?”, like, every time.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 41 - The Midnight Hour (1985) Comfy, but very goofy 80’s tv movie filled with middle-aged teenagers, most notably LeVar Burton a full 8 years after playing Kunta Kinte. There’s a song and dance number that will cringe you under the table.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 40 - VHS: Mixtape (2026) The rule of thumb on these is that every other one is good (more good stories than dumb) and last year’s was perhaps the best and conversely this one is perhaps the worst. Pro: This one has GWAR Con: This one has GWAR

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 39 Bonus - Insidious: Out Of The Further (2026) Hey, this one’s pretty good! Kinda. I mean, it doesn’t stick the landing, but it was creatively brutal and it took a full 40 minutes before something fucking stupid happened.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 39 - Insidious: The Red Door (2023) This one had some good bits in it, like the concentration thing and props on using the Biff Rose number, but the sanctimonious attitude is so painful.

No, but we have several other projects together in various forms of completion and he is still Lick Myheart’s guitar tech.

Is GC a mostly Rob Crow project? Did Nick Reinhart help with this latest album at all?

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 38 - Insidious: The Last Key (2018) Look, i can appreciate this film being an allegory on stopping the cycle of domestic violence, but none of these films has any reference to basic police procedure. Body dont get cold before they trampling all around a crime scene.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 37 - Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) Worst one so far, but now i just kinda wanna get through them to see if any of them are “the good one”.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 36 Bonus - Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) Takes the Poltergeist thing and straight up shoves in Aunt Martha from Sleepaway Camp. I feel stupid for watching these.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 36 - Insidious (2012) I always get this confused with Sinister, which i always get confused with The Conjuring. Takes a slice of Poltergeist and beats it into the ground.

If you know anyone that lives or has family here that still wants to vote for him, show them this footage of their guy and how much he really cares about us all. I can’t believe this is real.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 35 - Hunter Hunter (2020) Brutal Field & Stream Horror. I often wonder what Henry The Turkey Hunter from Vernon, Florida would do in a situation like this.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 34 - Infirmary (2026) I been playing that new Silent Hill, so watching somebody else wander around with a flashlight, but shittier looking and no payoff seemed a literal waste of time.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 33 - Manic (1934) The kind of densely stupid filmmaking that Ed Wood gets mistakenly accused of. Awful acting, story, editing, shot composition & none in a "fun" way. At one point they show a guy squeeze out a cat's eyeball & eat it. Fuck that. The best part...

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 32 - The Wailing (2016) I thought I'd seen this before, but maybe confused it with The Sadness. This is great! Slow pace, but smooth tone, so over two and a half hours went down pretty easy. Great kid actor.

#HorrorADayTillHalloween26 Day 31 - Human Experiments (1979) Sounds like a horrible thing until you hear this lady’s act. This film's kind of great? Not as simplistic as it seems except when it is. Light on experiments, actually, unless you count the prog band that plays the jailhouse cafeteria.
