Pretty sure I have not been to Barton Springs in about 20 years. Partially because the last few times I went, the floating algae was just gross. Have they solved the algae problem, or is today just a really good day? I first came to BS in 1984, and honestly, I think it looks almost that good.

Horror fans: I HATE: Torture porn I THINK IS OVERRATED: 28 Days/Years etc I THINK IS UNDERRATED: Green Room I LOVE: Autopsy of Jane Doe I CAN WATCH AGAIN AND AGAIN: I don't do that. MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH HORROR: The Shining ACTUALLY SCARED ME: Oddities I SHOULD HAVE SEEN BY NOW: The Exorcist

I just realized--Tally Isham was probably the first "Influencer." Yes, I know technically her medium was sim-stim, but what she did for a living was: 1) have amazing, glamorous experiences and 2) make them available as media so that her millions of followers could experience them vicariously.

"the world—the interesting parts, anyway—as perceived by Tally Isham. Tally raced a black Fokker ground-effect plane across Arizona mesa tops. Tally dived the Truk Island preserves. Tally partied with the superrich on private Greek islands, heartbreaking purity of those tiny white seaports at dawn."

I'm not even going to link the trailer to "Significant Other" because it's got a spoiler in it for one of the several hardcore WTF??? moments in this flic. It's not perfect, but it's got some amazing WTF moments. Plus, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen about mental health.

7 out of 10 of these are absolutely true for me. Sometimes I fantasize about how different my life might have been if diagnosis and treatment--hell, just understanding--had been available for me when I was younger.

ADHD can have a serious impact on your life and mental health. These are some of the things that were and still are the hardest for me. Thanks for to everyone who joined me on stream while I was working on this 🫶

I really hope the Sony suits are listening.

I rarely deploy the term "banger." This? @davidehrlich.bsky.social's latest newsletter entry (and his glorious return after his book leave)? About the "absolute hell" of movie-going at the Drafthouse these days? This. This is a banger. www.indiewire.com/features/com...

"agents initially claimed [the victim] purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall" I used to take calls for Child Protective Services. We would call this "Injuries Inconsistent with Explanation." It meant we were dealing with a violent, abusive liar. apnews.com/article/immi...

apnews.comICE claim that a man shattered his skull running into wall triggers tension at a Minnesota hospitalNurses in Minneapolis doubted federal immigration officers' claims about a Mexican immigrant's severe injuries.

I mean, I know that when I whip out my phone to do something simple like order food, I NEVER get distracted and start checking my texts, my chat groups, that video someone sent me, oh shit—a work email, gotta at least take a look at that… #filmsky #alamodrafthouse

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

I was thinking about how some professions have relatively equal income distribution and some very much do not. Like, the highest paid fast food worker doesn't make a whole lot more than those at minimum wage. But with plumbers the top 10% make about double the bottom 10%

Ideally, this would be a Lorenz/Gini curve, but that would be a whole lot more work. Also, note the lack of granularity--the top 10% of musicians combined make a fair amount of money, but I'll bet the top 1/10th of 1% makes the vast majority of it.

What was your first car? Mine was a 1974 Ford Maverick that I got for $500 in 1983 or 84. It was not quite this color, but a weird bronzer-orange I can’t find a good pic of. Post your first cars—I wanna see them!
