Whenever I ask Bruce Arena about specific #Quakes74 players and their injury/status, I get the same "Why are you asking me that?" face, followed by as vague a response as he deems to give. I get it, with respect to tipping off opponents, but I don't plan to stop asking.

Injury reports are key information, not only for fans and media, but for opposing teams. Most soccer leagues in the world don’t have these reports, but MLS operates in the US, where these reports exist across every sport. We dig into the evolution of these reports by team for FAM:

My goal is never to "expose" the team -- I am given some information on background that is not intended for sharing -- but for players with longer term injuries, folks want to know a bit more about the timelines for returning to action.

This is terrific.

The story of Cavan Sullivan is a story about American soccer idols, and by extension, a story about American soccer itself, both the good and the bad. 20 years after Freddy Adu, American soccer has its prodigy. For @scoutedftbl.com, the tales we weave about Cavan and all that came before (🎁 link):

Preston Judd said last night that he felt the celebration on his first goal against the Timbers was too muted. He wasn't going to stay quiet when celebrating goal #2. #FiretheSiren

Niko Tsakiris availability update: Bruce Arena says it's a muscle injury, unrelated to the injury he required surgery for earlier this season. No timeline on his return to training. #Quakes74

Preston Judd's two goals tonight against Portland give him 15 for the #MLS season, the most in a #Quakes74 campaign since Jeremy Ebobisse scored 17 in 2022.

Earl Edwards Jr. having quite a night in goal for the #Quakes74. Makes losing Angus Gunn to international duty a non-issue. Or... it's just the break San Jose needed to get in their more reliable shot stopper. 🤔

Eduard Löwen hits it top netting to give the #Quakes74 a 2-0 lead over the Portland Timbers: his first goal for the Earthquakes after notching his first San Jose assist on Preston Judd's opener. #goalcontributions

Eduard Löwen gets credit for a secondary assist on the #Quakes74 third goal, feeding Paul Marie on Judd's finish. Make it a #goalcontributions hat-trick for Löwen!

Years ago, while perusing a US Soccer media guide, I was intrigued to see a Mark Jonas on the youngest players to appear for the #USMNT list. Leave it to Pablo to dive into the story of my Jonas brother from another mother.

Pablo Maurer@mlsist.bsky.social

In 1991, a trio of unheralded high schoolers - two of them younger than Cavan Sullivan is today - appeared for the USMNT. Two of them would never do so again. Their story has been lost to time. I spoke to all three of them, on @us.theguardian.com: www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Niko Tsakiris, arguably the San Jose Earthquakes most important player this season and the key to the team's early season success, is no longer listed as out in the latest MLS availability report. Big news for a #Quakes74 side that has struggled in his absence.

Paul is amazing. What a wonderful gesture from US Soccer.

As the legend @pkedit.bsky.social announces he will retire in September, @ussoccer.com president Cindy Cone stops by to present him with a jersey in his honor. No. 55 to mark 55 years of @socceramerica.bsky.social, which was here before so many of us and hopefully still will be long after us.

Happy #USMNT Day! Good read from Jeff looking at the Pochettino way.

Mauricio Pochettino admitted he was "naïve" about the culture of the #usmnt when he first took over, and that the complacency in the squad was like getting hit with a "big punch." More on how he turned things around, & reestablished the team's connection with fans. www.espn.com/soccer/story...

Bruce Arena offered some updates on the injured #Quakes74 players going into the World Cup break, notably that Timo Werner is back in full training and will be ready to go when San Jose resumes its MLS season on July 22.

Arena also added that Niko Tsakiris and Dejuan Jones are also making significant progress. Niko is unlikely to be back before August, but his recovery is going well. Jones, if all goes well, might be available before the end of the season, or even available for a playoff run.

Arena recalled how David Beckham, after tearing his Achilles on loan at Milan, was able to get back on the field before the LA Galaxy finished their season. He says with Jones, not to rule out something similar.

Bruce Arena met the media today following #Quakes74 training and shared that the negotiations on his contract extension were quick. He's excited for the opportunity to build the club in the coming seasons to be a regular contender in MLS play.

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena to a new contract that will run through the 2028-29 season. "I have enjoyed my time here in San Jose, and I am excited to continue to see this team improve and compete at the highest level in MLS," said Arena.

Some classic guerilla marketing by Paul here. Airport goers in LA and Seattle, be ready!

Before the 2026 World Cup, it's worth remembering the last time the USA hosted a men's tournament in 1994, and what a wild summer it was. ESPN & Marvel present RED, WHITE AND CLUELESS, the untold story of that team that came from nothing to become everything. www.espn.com/video/clip/_...

I was nodding along, getting more frustrated with every one, then decided it would calm me down to take the dog for a walk. Checked the weather app -- a sunny morning -- only to look outside and see it is raining.

Very good question from @mlsist.bsky.social on how the decisions of who made the #USMNT roster were communicated, and a rambling, but informative response from Mauricio Pochettino. Given his past experience as a player on the bubble of Argentina's World Cup rosters certainly influenced him.

And here is Pablo Maurer's article on how Pochettino explained his communication choices when it came to setting the #USMNT World Cup roster. Definitely worth a read. bsky.app/profile/mlsi...

Pablo Maurer@mlsist.bsky.social

I asked USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino today what he makes of the criticism he’s received for emailing players who did not make his 26-man World Cup roster. His response was remarkably frank. More, on the Guardian: www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Halftime in Colorado, as the Rapids take a 2-0 lead into the break of the #USOC2026 quarterfinals. It's the first time in all competitions this year that the #Quakes74 have trailed by two goals.

Couldn't have happened to a finer club. #PUP 😉

Southampton have been expelled from the Championship play-off final. The south-coast club will appeal the decision, which also sees them handed a four-point deduction for the 2026-27 season in the Championship. More from @mwalkerfoot.bsky.social & @dansheldon.bsky.social

News: The #Quakes74 have acquired forward/winger Darius Johnson from Phoenix Rising FC on a permanent transfer and signed him to a contract through the 2026 season with club options through June 2027 and the 2027-28 season. The Grenadian international will occupy an International Roster Slot.

“We are pleased with the signing of Darius Johnson to our roster,” said Bruce Arena. “Darius caught our eye when he played against us as an attacking player for Phoenix Rising in our U.S. Open Cup match. His pace and versatility will help complement our attack, and we welcome him to San Jose.”

Some stats on what Johnson has done with USL Championship side Phoenix Rising. bsky.app/profile/njem...

Nicholas Murray@njemurray.bsky.social

Johnson should add a direct attacking threat for San Jose on the flanks. The 26-year-old completed 27 dribbles in the #USL-C at a 33.3% success rate in 2,333 minutes of action, logging 15 chances created and three big chances created.

Bruce Arena was very disappointed in the way VAR was used tonight, questions why the review of Benji Kikanovic's possible DOGSO required so much time, yet no consideration was given to the FC Dallas goal and the possible foul on Ronaldo Vieira in the build up.

Reid Roberts was rigid as Petar Musa kept moving, and the Dallas striker pokes home from close range to give the visitors a 2-1. #Quakes74 have to play catch-up once again.

Really good crowd tonight at PayPal Park, making themselves heard at every opportunity. #Quakes74 started slow in this game, but they're growing into it. 1-1 at halftime is a fair score; San Jose needs to up the intensity a notch higher and put Dallas under pressure from the second half whistle.

Daniel Munie showing off his All-Star level defending for the #Quakes74 tonight against FC Dallas. If you agree, make your voice heard: voting is now open for the 2026 MLS All-Star team.

NEWS: #Quakes74 midfielder Niko Tsakiris underwent successful surgery on his right groin today and is expected to miss three to four months. Niko has been playing at an MLS All-Star level and is a big reason San Jose sits atop the Supporters' Shield standings.

The good news for #Quakes74 is that Preston Judd, the team's leading scorer with 8 goals, is not listed as injured on the latest availability list. Judd had to exit San Jose's 1-1 draw with Vancouver late in the game with an apparent right leg issue. He should be available for selection at Seattle.
