Yesterday I learnt that two of my cousins (my grandfather's sister's children) were murdered in the death camp at Chelmno. So when I see Nazis parading in Washington DC, it has more than a special meaning for me. Enjoy your July 4, and look after your democracy, your freedom and your rule of law.

Trump Vance Ramaswamy Paxton Graham What a bunch! Is it any surprise the 2027 House and Senate are about to flip, and the White House will follow in 2029?

Update for anyone who reads this: Our tragic losses have grown to at least six. But one survived Auschwitz, married and left Germany with an infant son for the New World. From that tree trunk, 18 branches and twigs have grown. So far. We are in touch. Life has its way of moving on.

A further update: our loss has reached twenty-five. Two branches were almost completely wiped out, and our parents never knew. It seems our family lost touch with its Polish cousins after my great-grandfather died here in 1920. Never forget.

Charles Spencer's interview with Kuenssberg reminds me of Andrew's with Maitlis and Harry's with Winfrey. I can't bring myself to care for any of them. They know the King has no right of reply. Rather than Spencer's book, I've ordered Weisberg's Profiles in Cowardice. It seems more appropriate.

No. 10 says Andy Burnham isn't considering an Inquiry into Epstein. I agree. Inquiries cost us an arm and a leg. Lawyers sit in rank racking up enormous fees. And I'm not sure how much they have ever achieved. Let the police and the prosecutors do the job they're paid to do.

If I have any Kiwi followers, know that I love the way your Ryan Fox seized his chance and won the Open Championship. No fuss. No bother. Just birdie the hardest hole on the course to become the Champion Golfer of the Year. Enjoy your Claret Jug, Ryan!

A second UK government department announces it has left X because of its misinformation and abuse. Having done so a couple of years ago for the same reasons, I can only applaud. BUT I see budding signs of abuse in some replies here. There’s no excuse for this. Don’t do it, and block those who do.

Happy the first Venezuela Earthquake Appeal has come as usual from World Jewish Relief. This follows support for old folk and children in Ukraine, and the Turkey-Syria earthquake. Jewish people have a tradition of Tzedakah, an ethical obligation to give to bring fairness and justice to the world.

Trump: Andy Burnham is "the mayor of a town and extremely liberal". The Greater Manchester Authority is larger than all but a very few of the US's largest cities. Burnham's record does not include bankruptcy, felony, rape or association with a convicted pedophile. Nor is he (yet) an extremist. OK?

Apparently there’s a guy in the US called JDSomething who calls on us to express “righteous anger” over the loss of poor Henry Novak’s life, when the boy’s dad had asked us not to. Is this the same guy who expressed no such anger over the loss of innocent lives to police bullets in Minneapolis?

According to the BBC, President Trump says he speaks for the UK more than Prince Harry. It's a tough one to determine which of the two speaks less for us. Harry was speaking for himself, and I guess Trump was just... speaking.

CNN reporting Iranian missile hits US base in Qatar. Also, CIA is promoting Kurdish uprising against regime. Seems like Department of War’s planning is less than competent. About as good as the Bay of Pigs fiasco.

From the Office of the Life Chair of the Board of Peace: I've stopped 8 wars, including some that never started. I've started wars with Venezuela, Iran and Minnesota. I'm thinking about starting wars with Cuba, Colombia, Greenland and US democracy. Where's my Nobel Prize?

Watching a replay of Matt Weston’s winning slide on the skeleton in the Winter Olympics reminded me that it’s 62 years since my last ride on the Cresta Run. I must have been out of my mind to have tried it.

Much though I despise AMW as an abuser of vulnerable girls, I still don’t get what sexual criminal offence he is supposed to have committed in the UK on the evidence currently available. Would someone with an understanding of the law please enlighten me.

Jim Ratcliffe says he’s sorry if his language offended people when he said Britain had been “colonised by immigrants”. It wasn’t the language that I found offensive. It was the sentiment. Sitting in his tax-free haven in Monaco, colonised by wealthy tax-avoiders, does he not understand?

UK television station Channel 4 News has just shown grainy pictures taken by covert CCTV in Epstein's library, recovered from the Epstein files. Who knows more about this?

Who would have predicted in 2024 that thousands of intelligent people working on valuable federal programs would be turned put of their jobs and be replaced by thousands of thugs bent on doing harm to innocent people? Only the sick drafters of Project 2025 could have thought up such a mad exchange.

Mark Carney has taught us such a valuable lesson: to choose as our leaders people who have already led successful careers, rather than ambitious career politicians who promise what they cannot deliver.

Message to Starmer: When someone makes it clear that he is not your friend, don’t waste your time trying to change his mind. The lesser evil is to believe him and act accordingly.

Fact: Alfred Nobel was Swedish, not Norwegian. In his Will, Nobel specified that his prize committee sit in Oslo, as an independent body not subject to any government’s control.

Sinclair Lewis won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1930. Eat your heart out, Trump; he's not going to hand it over. Every American should read "It Can't Happen Here", published in 1935. Provided it hasn't been banned from their state and school libraries. In 2026 it's a warning that "It Can".

Jamie Raskin, the lead impeachment rep against Trump, tells it as it is. Farage is the most dangerous UK politician since Oswald Mosley.

Putin's little tool Farage is all over our TV screens, so I think this deserves revisiting. Farage squirms as Rep. Jamie Raskin obliterates the "Putin-loving, free speech imposter, Trump sycophant". Please share. The news media seem all too keen to forget about Farage's service to Russia.

Ninety years ago Sinclair Lewis gave Americans a warning about their democracy in his novel It Can’t Happen Here. Thirty years ago Philip Roth repeated this warning in American Tragedy. But most Americans don’t read literature. Instead they pursue a different Dream. So it is happpening.

Question: How did the fake Epstein letter to Nassar appear in the released files? Does anyone believe the DoJ/FBI did not drop it in so it could later be shown to be fake, with obvious benefit to you know who? The old saying was never more true: The fish stinks from the head.

Jake Tapper just played edited excerpts from Trump’s PA rally. They made him seem rambling and incoherent. Oh dear! Now wait for the $10 billion lawsuit. Meanwhile all seems to be quiet on the BBC front.

When I was a boy, we lost the first 1954-55 Ashes test heavily. We lads were down in the dumps. The result of the series: Australia 1, England 3. Len Hutton and his team returned home triumphant. That summer I was allowed to bowl to Hutton. What an honour! Like an American kid pitching to Ohtani.

Official spokesman for the Amsterdam police tells the Sunday Times that the allegations made by West Midlands police about Maccabi fans were mostly false. The WMP should be indepedently investigated and held to account for the false claims. The nation’s police forces should stop lying to us.

My take, for what it's worth, on yesterday in DC: By speaking out, the survivor women overcame the resistance of an cringeworthy crew from the executive and legislative branches, who appeared to have power in their hands but crumbled as soon as challenged. These women are heroines.

I remember the day when we learnt that Nixon had taped the Oval Office. It was the tip of the iceberg. Today the Epstein email revelations tell us that the Trump iceberg is melting fast.
