Once more for the evening crowd:
Recently, I reread Robert Chambers' THE KING IN YELLOW stories. I wrote about them, today (link below). I went in with the hope that I would come to a better understanding, this time, of what makes Chambers so unique, what elevates his work above Lovecraft and others' in my mind.

In case you hadn't seen YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING yet when I first posted, my review/ reflection on our ability to know and/or be known:
Today: My review of YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, which is a broader reflection on Nathan Fielder's work and how I connect with it (anxieties about our ability to know or be known by anyone, or our ability to know anything with certainty at all). Link below.

Only have a few more hours to raise $575!!! Please boost this if you see it in your feed. Just trying to keep a roof over our heads until I get paid. Anything helps!
We’ve made no progress on the rental/sublet front and still need to raise funds to cover the room until I get paid again next week. I’ve got until Saturday morning to reach this goal. Pls share this when you see it. Anything helps!

Damn. RIP, Ryu Murakami. I'd known him by reputation, but it was only last year that I actually started to read him, and he radically changed my understanding of violence and horror in fiction. He's best known for AUDITION (and then, through its adaptation), but IN THE MISO SOUP is life changing.
Author Ryu Murakami, whose edgy works explored sex, violence, and youth culture, has died, his publisher said Friday. He was 74.

Issue 4 of this excellent series is out now. As a whole, I think this is an excellent, excellent read. I've been going back to The King In Yellow stories recently, and while this is a different kind of cosmic horror, I think it's an interesting entry in the cosmic horror canon,

For the evening crowd: Note: if you haven't seen it, I very clearly mark where I shift from a general discussion of Fielder to stuff that actually gets into spoilers for YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING.

my check-in this week: should cognitive behavioral therapy workbooks count towards your goodreads reading challenge totals
1 week into a partial social-media break, trying to only check in to post new blogs (though I've checked notifications a couple of other times). 2 things are now pretty clear; the anxiety is even worse than before, but also if I were scrolling all day it'd be worse still.
