Think I Should Coco will be my number 1 for #5DebutAlbums9599 Supergrass were an underrated band, so tight, great musicianship (with the element of chaos) and brilliant songwriting. Saw them live again last year lots of fun
One I will struggle to leave out of my top 5 #5DebutAlbums9599 Word Gets Around by Stereophonics. Kelly's voice is up there with the best, Stuart Cable RIP one of my favourite heavy hitters, and its great lyrically. They only had 1 good album after this before they went shit and got more popular
Not seen anyone mention this album yet, for #5DebutAlbums9599 with Richard Hawley on guitar and one of the best singers of the 90s Crispin Hunt.
The Sun is Often Out by Longpigs is a brilliant album.
A top 5 shoe-in for me is an artist I actually met and befriended at hypo-birthing classes when we were both about to have our first children.
Benedict Benjamin, aka Ben Rubinstein, ex of Peggy Sue and Mariners Children.
He's had 3 absolutely brilliant albums since 2016, his debut is Night Songs
#5DebutAlbums0509
Another one I'd forgotten how good it was.
Full of classic sounding songs. Great playing and production.
The Magic Numbers - self titled.
My first gig in my new home town of Brighton and what a show!?!
Freddy Forbidden and Boko Yout.
Boko Yout put out my favourite album of 2025.
The bands were excellent and the crowd were amazing. All the jumping about pushed my step count up to 34k..
Came to an artist in my #5debutAlbums0509 that reminded of how for a time during this period I found lots of new bands via MySpace.
I discovered Kate Nash, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys and Little Boots. All of which had great debuts.
Really enjoyed Little Boots videos with the Tenori-on
Probably a lesser known band this time for #5DebutAlbums0509
Rubblebucket - s/t
Love this band, always put them on if I need cheering up, never fail to put a smile on my face and a spring in my step
youtu.be/OEVpAefIrU0?...
Vampire Weekend are an obvious one for #5DebutAlbums0509 Their self titled debut is packed with great songs.
They are clearly brilliant songwriters and musicians. Blending afropop, punk, and orchestral chamber music with interesting lyrics.
#5DebutAlbums0509 probably my favourite artist of the last 20 years, but I got into her after the debut, it's good but will be outside my top 5.
Laura Marling - Alas I cannot swim
#5DebutAlbums0509 today's band are one of my favourites and they reformed last year after splitting up in 2017 after 4 brilliant albums.
The debut was great and is a definite contender for my top 5.
The Maccabees - Colour It In.
Today's #5DebutAlbums0509 recommendation. Ladyhawke - s/t
Didn't own this album back then but I was recommended it for these polls by my more dance/electro friends, but I actually know quite a few of the songs.
Some great catchy bangers
I will have lots of recommendations for this period #5DebutAlbums0509 I was 24-28 and playing full time in a band. All I did was play or listen to music.
Everything Is by Nine Black Alps. Heavy 90s grungesque rock with really catchy songs
Some great music during these 5 years, I worked through an 85 hour playlist, including the greatest debut album of all time.
#5DebutAlbums9094
1. Oasis - definitely maybe 5pts
2. The La's - s/t
3. Radiohead - Pablo Honey
4. Ocean Colour Scene - s/t
5. Nas - illmatic
@richards7370.bsky.social late to the party but I've found my top album of 2025 a few weeks into 2026.
Boko Yout - Gusto. #5Albums25
Going to be my first gig of 2026, and the first gig of my new hometown Brighton.
#5DebutAlbums9094 this was an unexpected one Gillian Gilbert and Stephen Morris from New Order - Other Two. I've only recently come round to NO, I was put off by his voice but I actually think this is better than NO and the Electronic album from this round.
Her voice and the instrumentation is great
I love Ocean Colour Scene.
The band have a shout at best drummer, bassist, guitarist and singer of 90s Britpop.
2nd album Moseley Shouls is a classic.
I thought their debut wasn't great (the cover artwork is terrible) but it actually might just be a contender for my #5DebutAlbums9094 top 5.
Top ten favourite singers
1. John Lennon
2. Liam Gallagher
3. Johnny Cooke
4. Bob Dylan
5. Crispin Hunt
6. Steve Marriott
7. Laura Marling
8. Joni Mitchell
9. Karen O
10. Nina Simone
#5DebutAlbums9094 for me the greatest debut album of all time, Definitely, no maybes. Changed the course of my life at 14. Got to relive it again in 2025, shouting it out with my mates, arms around each other, a collective happening.
Made a few discoveries in the last few years on social media of artists who don't look like Sabrina Carpenter and would have been gatekept out by A&R.
One of those this year is Corook who is writing pop songs worthy of the top of the charts. She put out Commited to a Bit in Feb. #5albums25
#5albums25
An artist that has really caught my ear in the last 5 years and got me rushing to open Shazam every time she came on the radio is Lael Neale. Altogether Stranger is another great album.
Will probably feature high up in my top 5.
Best discovery of this round is Bobby Charles, I'd never heard of him, great songs and great voice. I must be in a good place now is on a loop in my head permanently
#5DebutAlbums7074
#5DebutAlbums7074 comparing Faces side by side with Humble Pie. Marriott was head and shoulders above Stewart, despite his diminutive size.
What a voice, RIP.
My #5debutAlbums7074 votes so far. Just dropped Harrison out to make space for others as expect him to be safe. Moved house so not had time to get through the full playlist I made. Next 2 days doing the new 4 hour round trip commute should fix that.
Today's #5DebutAlbums1014 recommendation. I always forget to shout out my top albums.
Vaccines debut is full of bangers start to finish. Love this album.
Today's #5DebutAlbums1014 recommendation.
I'd totally forgotten about Lissie, her debut album is great, can't put a genre on it as it explores different styles but still works as an album
I actually started my #5DebutAlbums1014 playlist back when I was searching for the 1st round, 1st band I put in it was Temples.
Their debut album is like a best of from a 60s psychedelic band. Every song could have been a single.
And they looked the part, all cheekbones, wirey frames and Bolan hair.
Quite a lot of this round sounds very of its time, both in production and in song and performance. #5DebutAlbums8084
Was taken aback when Swans kicked in thought id accidentally put a 2025 album in the playlist.
Got an Idles/Sleaford Mods sound. Not my cup of tea but interesting to hear dif style
Half way through my #5DebutAlbums8084 playlist I have a top 20.
This isn't my musical era, I don't think its is as good as the music from when I was a teenager/early 20s.
Realising this proves how people perceive music is more about their emotional/mental state and I might never get that rush again
Today's #5DebutAlbums0004 recommendation.
Phoenix - United. This band was a mainstay of house parties throughout the 2000s. Not quite the same heights they reached with album 4 Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, but a great debut.
Today's #5DebutAlbums0004 recommendation.
Ordinary Boys - Over the counter culture.
The singer went on to embarrass himself on Big Brother and Nevermind the Buzzcocks, but his band were great, super tight (excellent drummer), well crafted Jam-inspired songs, they were lots of fun live.
Today's #5DebutAlbums0004 recommendation.
The Stills - Logic will break you heart.
The opening track is one of my favourite songs ever. Really beautiful album.
