It feels like a 'when' not 'if' the stock market correction happens. How deep it will be and the damage this does is not yet clear but it could be very ugly indeed. Couple this with some huge flows to bond markets and this now feels priced in. www.economist.com/business/202...

We were informed of this reduction to employer contributions months ago and had already factored it into 26-27 budgets plus no funds have ever been provided for rise in contribution rates over the years. Feels disingenuous. BBC News - Schools in England get extra £500m. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
A great article which really unpicks how trade deals can unravel. The vital part here is timing. With US mid-terms up in November, expect the negotiations to resume fairly soon. A political choice rather than an economic one.
This explainer out of Australia is genuinely useful background and analysis of what happened with the Canada-US trade deal last night. Note that it is extremely and delightfully sweary. Also there’s an appended glossary of Australian slang. ifloz.substack.com/p/king-carne...

And so it now appears Ofsted are saying this view is accurate. In schools with above average levels of pupil deprivation 58% of their inspections are grade as expected or better for achievement compared with 84% of schools with below average levels. Given the awful shooting in Minneapolis last night and their international political stance,Mark Carney was right to say middle tier countries like Canada and UK must urgently work together.Otherwise we are driven into the hands of China.Worringly, the latter seems to be the direction we are taking.
This has many sensible points, however it does wreak a bit of central bankers pseudo threatening elected politicians. Democracy is more important. A private memo from central banks to governments www.economist.com/leaders/2026... From The Economist

They will have had to work incredibly hard to secure this. Perhaps more so than a school that gets to the soon to be required 90% pass but serves the most affluent families. I agree with most of this, but the role is quite specific and it would be odd if it was given to a DH or AH and IMO it's too much for those in a governance role. So it falls to the HT, which I suspect it will, on most occasions, or someone in a MAT leadership team? schoolsweek.co.uk/how-to-make-...
A challenging read. If we are to fulfil the transition to an AI powerhouse set out this week so clearly by the UK PM and US President then we need to focus on this. Our secondary has some of the best rates of success in maths with its disadvantaged pupils. ffteducationdatalab.org.uk/2025/09/why-...

Nothing against the MAT leaders in this group. I know some professionally, and they are strong leaders, but I'm afraid the government rarely pulls from leaders of SATs or small MATs for advice. We do the same job with the same knowledge, expertise and experience. schoolsweek.co.uk/20-academy-c...
