We were watching 90’s commercials on YouTube and called some of the numbers. It turns out the number for ZooBooks is now a medical alert bracelet company. Let that sink in…

This past week I continued my sojourn through Presidential burial sites with a visit to President Andrew Johnson’s gravesite in Greeneville, Tennessee. At the highest point in Greeneville, he may have been one of the worst presidents but his site has some of the best views I’ve witnessed thus far.

I visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial today—it was a reminder to me that our president does not own the American story. He may be able to drive a narrative, but the prevailing force in our country has always been its resiliency and ability to unite—even in dark moments. We still have that ability now.

Rest in peace and rise in glory, Tim Curry—from Dr. Frank-N-Furter to Long John Silver, your roles captivated me. Yours was a legendary career and life. 📸: From my autograph collection

284 years ago today in 1742, Susanna Wesley, the mother of John and Charles Wesley (and mother to a total of 19 children) died at the age of 73. John peached his mother’s funeral and Charles wrote the epitaph for her headstone. 📸: From my trip to London last November

I have a thing for old things, my job is proof of that—so this is my souvenir from our beach vacation. I wonder what the tooth fairy had to pay for this honker 5+ million years ago.

Today marks the start of Nurse’s Week—and I think it is one of the greatest of all professions. I’m biased, but when your mom is the nurse that she is, it just all adds up. She is a caliber of nurse worthy of imitation. Giving thanks for all those in the nursing profession today and every day.

“King George, as you know, never set foot in America, and please be assured I’m not here as some sort of cunning rear-guard action.” - His Majesty, King Charles III on his five-greats grandfather during his address to the joint session of Congress

I can very much assure you that though the glasses and clergy robe are the same, my life is not the basis for the new show “Big Mistakes” by Dan Levy on Netflix. It’s a hilarious show though—😂

It may be Easter but it’s also First Contact Day in the Star Trek universe—on April 5, 2063, humanity made first contact with an alien race, ushering in a period of exploration and innovation. To celebrate here are some of my Star Trek cast autographs. 🖖🏻

From poet Malcolm Guite on this Maundy Thursday: “And here He shows the full extent of love To us whose love is always incomplete, In vain we search the heavens high above, The God of love is kneeling at our feet.”

The girls, Stephanie, Nona, Crabby, and I went to see "Hoppers" last night. I highly recommend it. It's well worth your time to be reminded we're all in this together. "It's hard to be mad when you feel like you're a part of something big."

Your work may feel lonely, the road may feel barren—but that’s what they want you to think. It’s a dangerous thing to think you’re alone. It’s more dangerous for them when you realize it’s not true. If you’re in a state with a primary today vote like our democracy depends on it. Because it does.

My 8 year old daughter imposed ashes on my forehead this evening at church. I asked her if she knew what to say when she put those ashes on someone’s forehead. She responded that she did and said, “God loves you” as the ash swept across my head. What a perfect thing to say.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson died today. He was more than a civil rights advocate turned presidential candidate—he was a trailblazer whose desire was to bring all of us along for the ride. He will be sorely missed.

Friends, as Ash Wednesday approaches it is my solemn and steadfast duty to remind my clergy colleagues to never mix the ashes with water unless you want to burn your parishioners with lye. Here’s to a holy and safe Lent.
