The full Hunter’s Moon rises behind the Wasatch Mountains above the Salt Lake Valley. I’m feeling it deep in my bones tonight…I might have even gone a little feral and let out a howl or two.

Now I’m starting to get a little bit of iPhone Duo fomo. This Tiny Computer app brings all the nostalgia for a Macintosh iBook G3 in Blueberry. This was such a fun design at the time. Also remembering how great AppleWorks on Mac OS 9 was. But turning your iPhone into a Nintendo DS? Cool.

The lighting here is just so good…I can almost feel the excitement Bryan must have felt photographing these elk! 🙌

This is probably the best wildlife photo that I will ever take in my life.

I initially read this as “… psychedelics like psilocybin can lower inflation…” and was very curious how THAT would work. 😬😂 I couldn’t recall any studies about microdosing psychedelics in any of my college macroeconomics coursework. www.npr.org/2026/10/21/n...

I think I should just hibernate this upcoming winter. Light a fire, put on some music, pour a cup of coffee, crack open a book…and ignore everything else until maybe March or April.

Quick trip to Dallas, TX for my nephew’s wedding, and as usual, Delta’s whole flight crew made for the best flight. My boy was invited into cockpit after he told the Captain, “Nice flyin’ Tex!” (We’d encountered some gnarly turbulence). He even scored a fleet trading card for our Airbus A220-300.

Pure. Cinema. 🙌

“Stop Making Sense” premieres 42 years ago today. 🎂 “.. shooting live music is the most purely cinematic thing you can do,” said director Jonathan Demme. “Ideally, the cinema is becoming one with the music. There is little artifice involved. There's no acting. I love it.” [“Slippery People”]

A little bit of sunshine right before sunset this evening, breaking through low-lying clouds over the Oquirrh Mountains on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. Looks like one more day of rain…I know we need it, but gimme back the nice weather!

One big puffy storm cloud settling in over the peaks of the Wasatch Mountains last evening. The Salt Lake Valley is getting soaked right now. And we need all of it.

I wonder what the view from the starboard windows was like for the passengers? I can spend hours happily staring out the window on flights, but takeoff and landing are my favorites - particularly at sunrise and sunset.

Ukraine has hit ~3 Yandex data centers in Russia within the last few days. Must be a total coincidence, but bot activity (and comments on Truth Social under specifically Trump’s posts) have plummeted.🤔 Thank you President Zelenskyy for blowing up Russian data centers! May the bots rest in pieces.

Sometimes you need to see things in black and white in order to see the light. Utah is the the land of the Utes, the Núuchi-u. The “People of the mountains.” I’m grateful to be in this place (most days) that I get to call home.

We had one hell of a sunset here in Utah last night. These were taken all on an iPhone, and only tweaked the exposure and highlights. Colors are untouched and 98% accurate to what I was seeing in person. Just gorgeous.

This morning I woke up to find our sweet pug, Koda had passed during the night. He valiantly fought off cancer for five months; it was time for him to cross the rainbow bridge. He was the sweetest good boy and our hearts are so very broken, especially my son who has grown up with his best friend. 🐾💔

The last bit of warm sunlight this evening illuminates the summit of Mount Timpanogos here in Utah. Made for a nice ending to this Saturday.

Dear Pulitzer, we’ve got a winner. What a splendidly unflattering image of this person. Well done, Mr. Winters…this should be his obituary photo. The lighting, the color, the angle, the shallow dof 🙌. 😧

“Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously, and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Total protonic reversal.”

“Uh…dad? What now? The structure of this roof cap is exactly like the kind of telemetry tracker that NASA uses to identify dead pulsars in deep space.”

Cloud City above the gas giant, Bespin? Or Lone Peak, above Salt Lake City? Maybe Sen Mike Lee will sell off these lands too, so they can start mining tibanna gas here next.

Throwback to a favorite bit of history: In 1940, at the film premiere of ‘Pinocchio’ at the Center Theatre in NYC, Disney hired 11 “little people” to parade on the top of the marquee in full Pinocchio costumes. At lunchtime, they were given food *and wine*. Do you see where this is going yet? Lol. 🧵

By the late, hot afternoon, they’d had enough and removed their “entire” costumes. The now-naked and inebriated actors began shouting obscenities at the crowds of people below, and the police were called. When police arrived, the unclad, belligerent, drunken group of actors REFUSED to come down…

They were happily playing craps atop the marquee, drinking more wine; taunting the cops below. Eventually the police had to use pillowcases to “re-clothe” them and bring them down. I mean, if I was hot, bored, underpaid, and day-drunk, I too might get naked and turn into a feral chaos gremlin. 🤣

Opted to watch a few episodes of The West Wing lately and tonight I’m watching “Hartsfield’s Landing” - and I can’t even imagine these nuanced conversations that could and should be happening in our White House. Instead we’ve got a dangerous clown show (no offense to actual clowns).

One of my favorite stories that my wife (HS history teacher) told me was about President LBJ. He used to prank guests at his ranch by driving his blue Amphicar down a hill, and proclaiming that “The brakes don’t work!” and driving the floating car straight down into the lake. Lol. 📷: Yoichi Okamoto

Our Lieutenant Governor is a beacon of hope amongst this administration’s efforts to derail the midterm elections.

I’m ready to head out and photograph the moon again tonight. Here’s the 99.5% almost-full Harvest Moon rising behind the Wasatch Mountains from last night. It was technically full this morning ~10:49am (MDT). Don’t forget to put out black coffee & cigarettes for St. Neil Young tonight! #HarvestMoon

Black and white Wednesday (from the clouds that rolled through Salt Lake yesterday). Got this thru the windshield while stopped at a red light too. Always good to have a camera on hand.

Captured some nice photos throughout the day - which made me happy. Puffy white clouds, cool light front a weird looking front that hit the Salt Lake Valley. Sunbeams shining down thru a break in the clouds. Finished off the day with another beautiful Utah sunset. And it was just a regular Tuesday.

Things I love about autumn in Utah: Cooler temps = hoodie weather Leaves changing colors. The scent of fall in the mountains. Hot apple cider and donuts from the pumpkin patch. All the good witchy & spooky things. And fall storms in the mountains with the dappled light! Current status: tea & a book

This is just cool. Each year one author, like Margret Atwood, donates their manuscript of an unpublished novel, which will only be printed in the year 2114, AFTER the trees they planted outside Oslo, are finally harvested, providing everything survives until then. www.futurelibrary.no#/information

I wish I’d still be alive to see this and read the books. The manuscripts are sealed in a box, in a vault, similar to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault…but for books! The next great novel might be locked away, and unread for the next 87 years. Maybe my son or perhaps his child will still be alive then!

This is 100% the modus operandi for DOGE/Musk. Hamstring and cripple your competition, “lose” irreplaceable equipment and then point to NASA’s failures as evidence that the space program should be privatized by…you guessed it…SpaceX. This is criminal, mob-like behavior. www.npr.org/transcripts/...
