Our work is finally out in Science Immunology ! This was an Amazing collaborative work from all co-authors, in particular the two co-first authors James Curson and Syeda Farhana Afroz . Never give up ! :) www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

science.orgMitochondrial fission mediates an evolutionarily conserved antibacterial defense responseMitochondrial fission promotes antibacterial defense via the mitochondrial unfolded protein response and inducible lipid droplets.

A titanesque work that started 10 years ago in Matthew Sweet ‘s lab that show how mitochondria dynamics is controlling antimicrobial response via the mitochondrial unfolded protein response and an inducible lipid droplet production. We also highlight the key role of HDAC6 in this response.

Our scRNAseq data identify macrophages subpopulation that enable high zinc toxicity on E.coli. Our data suggest also a mechanism of starvation followed by toxicity that woiuld enhance the antimicrobial effect. As one anonymous reviewer nicely coined “the one-two punch”

Nice work from @laurenpalmer.bsky.social ! Showing once more the important link between zinc, inflammation and antimicrobial response, Here, Acinetobacter baumannii.

SO EXCITED to share our recent work on dietary zinc deficiency worsening Acinetobacter baumannii pneumonia, out today with @natureportfolio.bsky.social!! Surprisingly, this is due at least in part to the allergic-type cytokine IL-13. SharedIt link: rdcu.be/d0h4h Eat your zinc rich foods! 🦪🫘🧀🥩🥜

Perfect project for a post-doc! You will have access to a great set of data and we have already exciting hypotheses! Don’t hesitate to contact us.

Looking for PostDoc - Metabolism/Salmonella. We are looking for candidates with excellent knowledge in bioinformatics and bacterial physiology / microbial ecology. We will help the candidate to build a successful application for European grants such as EMBO and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.

With all the new people, perhaps I should post an introduction. I am an immunologist identifying new antimicrobial responses in macrophages. My current research focuses on the use of metal ions (Zn & Cu) vs Salmonella infection. Always love to meet new faces and set up new collaborations. 🔬🦠

It’s out ! Our review on antibacterial responses in macrophages in @NatRevImmunol . We tried to cover as many pathways as we can, macrophages always astonish me by their immense arsenal. Very happy to have collaborated on that paper ! Version online FREE: rdcu.be/dUlUZ

Last few days before deadline!

Good news ! I’m looking for a post-doc (1 year ½ contract) to join our MiMoSa team at the @INRAE_VDL . Host-pathogen interaction project on understanding the dynamic of Zn and Cu during Salmonella infection. Deadline: Feb 11th, 2024. jobs.inrae.fr/en/ot-19561

Biology is never simple ! I’m happy to share our new publication on the role of HDAC6 on inflammasome. We used several methods (KO mouse, inhibitors, DARPIN…) to show that HDAC6 is NOT always driving the inflammasome and is context-dependent. DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jbc.2024.105638

I finally made it onto BlueSky ! I'm rebuilding my network slowly. I will try to update regularly my profile with (mostly) science while setting up my research at the INRAE ! Macrophages, Salmonella, metal ions (zinc) & mitochondria

You are up to date.
