A nice chart on “Get down ballot” offices…

TommasinaResist⚜️🦋🐈‍⬛@tommasinaresist.bsky.social

Hammer this daily: "Down-ballot" races, for local leaders & issues, are the most important. High-profile national ones get attention, but town councils, school boards, state legislators, etc. impact us most. Vote BLUE down-ballot. The impact of local government is BIG. #USDemocracy #Voices4Victory

Has he ever fully paid ANYBODY?!

Pretend Trump is on the ballot, maybe you get $5,000 if Republicans win Congress. A trillion-dollar promise, Vance started trimming within hours. It joins the DOGE and tariff dividends in the museum of checks not in the mail. #uspolitics #midterms #kakistocracy open.substack.com/pub/marygedd...

Reuter got this story wrong… It’s not mislabeled countries. None of those blobs are the shape or location of any actual African nation. It’s entirely AI slop! What a joke! www.reuters.com/world/africa...

True, according to @opensecrets.org. They’re at it more than ever.

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom. Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country. (Published 2022)

Republicans says they believe in voter ID, but when one of their own got caught in the snare, what happened? Donald Trump endorsed him. I give you the curious case of John Wahl.

We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King. This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.

Grateful for the last word in @hcrichardson.bsky.social's newsletter about #NoKings. As a social movement scholar, the protests were important for their size and for how many sites participated but also because they are part of a trajectory of participation of millions. A 🧵:

And from image events, we get POLYSEMIC images that carry multiple forms of ideology into the present. Here, we have the convergence of Shepard Fairey's iconic HOPE poster for the Obama campaign with the frog icon from #NoKings. The is how you visually dismantle fascist iconography.

We have millions in the streets already and he has some incel making middle school AI videos … that’s ALL HE’S GOT.

Dr. Lisa Corrigan@drlisacorrigan.bsky.social

Folks are asking what to do about the One Special Boy's AI vids and whether they should share them: MOCK THEM WITHOUT SHARING. This creates what an enthymeme, where readers have to SUPPLY PART OF THE REFERENT to understand what you are mocking. An enthymeme is the STRONGEST form of persuasion.

This is absurdly bad PR. These are the images that need amplified. If you're online, think strategically about which images need to go viral to tell the story of the horrors of this moment. RT and share the shit out of them.

President Trump stumbles while walking up the stairs to Air Force One

This is a consistent theme since yesterday from people on the ground in Paramount. Yes, there are crowds, there are protesters. But they are PEACEFUL. ICE began firing tear gas, flash bangs and smoke bombs once they saw people who happened to be there start filming.

JULIETTE KAYYEM: “Active duty Marines for this, Hegseth? I mean, we were just reporting on it. There's music. The traffic is moving. Most people in L.A. probably don't even know this is going on.”

Squeaker Johnson is the perfect namby pamby fascist tool…

Bill Kristol@billkristolbulwark.bsky.social

Speaker of the House: Using active duty Marines on the streets of an American city is just “peace through strength.” ‼️ So we can’t count on the Speaker to defend the rule of law, or to defend the military against misuse.

This administration is doing everything we would only suspect, back in a time when thinking they were doing such things was just paranoia. NO LONGER.

🚨 WaPo Exclusive 🚨 The Postal Service's law enforcement arm is assisting Trump's mass deportation push, per docs and sources. USPS takes photos of the front and back of mail and packages. DHS *really* wants that info, me and @hannahnatanson.bsky.social report.

People now need concrete action they can take to stop this wanton destruction.

John Burn-Murdoch@jburnmurdoch.ft.com

9/9 And another angle on the same dynamic: Trump’s approval is holding up very well with Maga, but he’s rapidly losing support among the rest of the coalition who voted for him in November. Or to put it another way, the view from inside the Maga echo chamber remains rosy. Outside, not so much...

There’s no place to look but our house afire…

John Burn-Murdoch@jburnmurdoch.ft.com

8) And this one is important. For all the talk about the powerful pro-Trump media ecosystem, the share of Americans who have heard negative business news coverage of the government has exploded. Evidently even the podcast bros can’t distract Americans from the realities of the stock market.

7) This one is fun: Remember when Trump won the “inflation election”, as voters united behind him because they were p***ed off with rising prices? Fast forward a few months and Americans’ inflation expectations are now as high as they were at the peak of Biden-era price rises.

Wow. People are just writing off the next four years. #idiocracy

John Burn-Murdoch@jburnmurdoch.ft.com

6) Just 25% of US adults say they expect their finances to look better in five years than today. That’s lower even than at the nadir of the Great Recession.
