I’m gonna scream. Not only does my appointment next week NOT help with housing, it ALSO doesn’t declare me disabled, which means ANOTHER step in the process. I’ll be homeless in less than a month, and I’ll die from my heart condition. Please consider donating. I need $2k. gofund.me/a192a7989

The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.

My managers face drop last year when she said the word ‘resilience’ and I immediately bit back with ‘that’s a filthy word in this context so far as I’m concerned. Imagine having the audacity to tell people ‘you need to get better at suffering.’’

Them: “Ugh, you’re a single issue voter?” Us: “I mean…if that issue is that we’re allowed to exist?”

Jess (They/Them)@jesspena.bsky.social

Wild idea, but if a candidate can’t say they’ll protect my right to exist, my right to healthcare, and that my rights will be protected under the law same as everyone else of my sex or gender …you don’t deserve my vote

There are a lot more trans people than there are politicians. Despite this, politicians have a much higher rate of criminality, arrest, and sexual offences (including minor related). I do not feel safe sharing public spaces with such a dangerous group, and this belief should be protected.

Running out of mileage to publicly attack and harm the incredibly vulnerable minority that is the trans community given the significant damage and regression of rights caused, the political gaze has turned to disabled people as their next victims. The easiest target: neurodivergent folk.

YouGov@yougov.co.uk

With much media coverage of a government report that ADHD and autism are being over-diagnosed, a claim which some experts have disputed, half of Britons now believe that the conditions are being over-diagnosed Over-diagnosed: 50% Under-diagnosed: 17% About right: 17% yougov.com/en-gb/daily-...

I rarely correct people on my pronouns because reactions can make me more uncomfortable than tolerating the wrong pronouns, but I need to get better at inhabiting my space. A colleague used ‘he’ for me so I sent them an email saying: “Hi, quick reminder: I use they/them pronouns.” Their response 🤔

I really don’t think this is hard. The only other times I’ve corrected people at work they’ve been super defensive. One lady (from HR, believe it or not) started shaking and crying and had to go home because I corrected her. Why are people so weird? Just say “Oop, sorry my bad—got you next time!”

And yes, this means I started writing something new today. Think ‘Widows Bay’ meets ‘Adults’…

Writing the first chapter of a story is one of the hardest points for me. Not because of how I plot (or don’t 😅), or chasing some great first line, or even deciding where to plant the ‘hook’. It’s because I have to find how my voice translates to making the reader see through the protagonists eyes.

I’m definitely a ‘voicey’ author. I think what may be something that not every voicey author does though, is change their tone, nuance, and perspective to shine through the lens of each POV character. It’s something I LOVE, shifting the cadence and rhythms and quirks but retaining my own style.

Tell me about your Gym Nemesis. Mine’s a guy who always comes and works out on the machines next to mine, ego lifts huge weights with bad form, then clunks them so hard the floor shakes. Idk if he’s trying to assert his male dominance or tell me he wants to bang me (maybe both, but I hate him).

2026: “Right, we need to get everyone trained up in AI and get AI running everything. It’s more cost effective and faster.” 2029: “Right, we need to hire people whose brains aren’t rotted by AI because our entire workforce has become incompetent of doing basic tasks and has no critical thinking.”

merman update. still going after an age. Trying out some water textures as placeholders, also need to figure out the dorsal fin. eh?

I remember thing told at Uni “Wikipedia is not a valid reference.” Bet they’d kill for an actual real reference now, Wikipedia or not.

Being forced into an inactive role in a life changing situation is ‘waiting mode’ hell. I’ve been through times where I’ve felt like it’s sucked the joy out of writing and for me, or even ended me as an author—BUT, I’m now drafting more books and have been falling in love with writing again 💚

When people told me being on sub was worse than querying, I didn’t believe them, but I regret to inform y’all… 😹

Being autistic and having ADHD, I frequently explain to people that I’m always balancing between being overstimulated and understimulated. This morning I realised that it aligns with an emotional issue, too. I always feel like I’m either ‘too much’ or ‘not enough’.

Prime Ministers resign in some level of disgrace or meander off to quieter expensive pastures—the transient nature of the post and proximity to powerful sources of corruption just make it a get rich while your hands are on the wheel trip. We need visible accountability.

It is always the same betrayal: the public interest is sacrificed for the sake of immensely wealthy people. And Andy Burnham has already gone and done it. My column on how Burnham needs to defy the ultra-rich if he's not to follow Starmer out of the door. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Funny thing about being an elder millennial: sometimes you feel really old and your knees barely work, but other times you remember that all you’d need to blow Gen Z’s minds is a shot of tequila, a couple of glow sticks, some flashing lights, and the right song because 20 years would just evaporate.
