Fantastic - no reason to make anything plastic in future

Paul Eric@pauleric70.bsky.social

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 China is replacing plastic with fast-growing bamboo, creating eco-friendly bags and tableware that can biodegrade in just 4–6 months

2 dead in Michigan from Taylor Farms lettuce. 1.7M+ contaminated eggs at Kroger. 3 dogs sick from Oma's Pride dog food. E. coli berries in 8 states. This is what happens when the FDA can't act before the harm — and victims can't sue after. All thanks to The Roberts Court.

The mind boggles at climate change denialism - à la the Trump administration. In terms of consequences - ie deaths - it is worse than Holocaust denialism. Because far more than 6 m will die due to climate change.

Hence the backlash

A massive Georgia data center drained nearly 30 million gallons of water, sparking outrage among local residents asked to conserve water during a drought. Residents of Fayetteville, Georgia, first noticed something was wrong when their home water pressure mysteriously plummeted.

We need more of this in the USA… “NYC Mayor Mandani reveals a plan to allocate $122 million to hire an additional 1,000 teachers by 2027. This must be why they say socialism is so horrible. Rather than funding continuous foreign wars, tax funds are being redirected toward our educational system.”

"The mere existence of trillionaires is a major political and economic problem, probably the defining issue of our time," writes @gabrielzucman.bsky.social. "When the power of wealth is wielded by sociopaths, the consequences are a matter of life and death."

theguardian.comThe era of trillionaires will be dire for democracy. Here is how we can fight back | Gabriel ZucmanThere is a fundamental tension between extreme wealth and the very possibility of democracy. That’s because extreme wealth is always an extreme power

All media seems to be in hock to climate denying, Epstein class- misogynists.

Mark Chadbourn@chadbourn.bsky.social

Not a single mention of the climate crisis anywhere. You would think extreme weather conditions would be a good opportunity to educate the public, but clearly not.

Govt’s incompetence is a threat to National security. If Reform were in Govt I would understand it - but it’s Labour . Is there no one in Labour with same basic technical nous who understands the threat that Palantir pose ? Beggars belief.

The King nails speech to Congress - I expected the gentle humor, refs to shared history, values, NATO, Ukraine, 9/11 etc - but surprised by his VERY pointed remarks about exec power being subject to checks and balances, and democracy not the will of one [person]. Wow, www.cnn.com/2026/04/28/u...

Have a look at the GDP growth rate over the subsequent decades. Higher tax = higher GDP

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.

Inequality is the biggest risk to the world

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice. It doesn't have to be this way.
