A mom just came in SO EXCITED to find a map store bc her son would LOVE it. She tries to be coy. "My son is... Really into maps. Real special kid." I'm like, ma'am, this is a map store. Half my customers are on the spectrum. I have a trains and transit section. You're among friends.

#GISChat #30DayMappingChallenge Good Morning Y'all as part of todays prep I have a question that I'd like to ask you to reflect on and maybe if you feel comfortable sharing with the community at large. Where do you get ideas for the maps you want to make? Where do you look for inspiration?

#GISChat #30DayMappingChallenge So for the last 3 years, I have been on a creative journey. I am calling it my creative spiritual practice. I have been reading ALOT of books about creativity, writing and art. 1/x

#GISChat #30DayMappingChallenge I started this creative journey because I felt I wasn't getting support at work for developing my skills within Geospatial Science. So I decided that for an hour every day, I would make a map, or watch a video related to skill want to develop. 2/x

#GISChat #30DayMappingChallenge In doing this practice, I have learned a lot. I have built up my cartography skills and found various artists whose styles I like to emulate. The biggest lesson however was that: 3/x

#30DayMappingChallenge #GISChat Here is my plan for this years challenge, I don't plan to do all 30 Days. Its too much for me, so I have decided to do 15 days and to be honest, I may not complete all 15. But regardless of whether you do 1, 5, 10 or even all 30. Everything you make helps you improve.

#30DayMappingChallenge #GISChat What was nice about removing the pressure for me to do all 30. was that I gave myself permission to pick which topics interest me. So here are my 15 that I am really excited about.

#30DayMappingChallenge #GISChat Here are the challenges I picked. Points Lines Polygons Sight 10 Minute Map Urban - Rural Sound Power Interactions Inside out Utopis OpenStreetMap Taste Network Water Bottom Line: Make this challenge work for you. Don't feel pressured to do all 30.

#30DayMappingChallenge #GISChat For me the lesson here is to acknowledge what I can do vs what I want to do. I may want to do all 30. But I know that due to my time and my energy I can only do as many as those two aspects allow. So here are the 15 I am planning to do.

#GISChat In his third book titled: "Show Your Work! 10 ways to share your creativity and get discovered!" He states: When you feel like you’ve learned whatever there is to learn from what you’re doing, it’s time to change course and find something new to learn so that you can move forward.

#PublicWorks Hello Public Works Folks! I am Rachel I am senior GIS Analyst in PW and i was wondering: Does anyone know if there is a starter pack? Maybe a GIS In Public Works Starter Pack? Asking for me?

#Rant I dislike that Microsoft Teams can inform you when a meeting you created has been forwarded. Especially when I wasn't informed of why these additional people were added. Rude. I'll have to dig through the team settings to see if i can turn off that notification.

I have to share this because it might save a life.

chrome can also do it natively, select the text, right click, copy link to highlight. the link reopens the page with the passage marked, so it works with any bookmarking tool that takes a url

Does anyone know of an extension that allows me to Highlight text (as if I was using a highlighter its self on my computer screen) I get emails, articles etc that have a snippet of information that seem really valuable to remember or be able to reference highlighting that segment would be cool.

#GISChat Question for all of y'all. Have you turned on the Metadata editor for your Orgs ArcGIS Online and if so is having metadata as part of any data you upload into ArcGIS Online mandatory? If not, why not? Second Question, Why are we afraid of standards?

#Voting What is your voting guide of choice? Do you have one you look forward to? A voting guide from your local news source or one from an organization you follow? Also for those of you who don't have mail in voting, can you bring in a voting guide into the ballot box with you?

#GISChat So, for a while now, I have been concerned about our electrical grid. This Friday Ohio University is hosting a 1 hour seminar on Energy Insecurity and Local Cities, and providing a road map for local action and what that looks like. Here is the link: cura.osu.edu/events/energ...

There is something deeply wrong with trying to kill a person twice, then sending her to a hospital for life saving measures so that they can try to kill her again.

Work PSA: Not including a due date for your project is RUDE. Yes, I can make my own due date and that's fine but it would really help me to prioritize my various projects if the people requesting the product gave me a due date!! Go argue with your momma.

#CreativeCarto Okay so I reviewed the Connecting Aurora Experience builder and skimmed the master plan PDF. My next steps will be: 1 Print out the Master Plan and to review it thoroughly, make notes and annotations. 2 Ask about the Experience Builder and what continuation support looks like.

#GISChat I am having a moment. I went to the Creative Carto website to check it out, look at the gallery. Lo and Behold a map I made in 2016? 2017. Is included on the website. I am truly humbled. My name is included on a website with the names of cartographers I consider to be some of the best.

A while back, I posted about taking vision therapy, today I completed 30 sessions of vision therapy sessions! we have made significant progress. On to Occupational Driving Therapy... eventually. ( mumbles something about paying off 4K dollars from Vision Therapy.)

Question Regarding AI, if AI is the way the future is going a question I have been thinking about is: Does everyone need access to AI? I think specific careers or fields need AI but I wonder if everyone else needs AI or even needs the same type of AI? #ArtificalIntelligence #AI

#GISChat I graduated with my GIS Masters in 2018, I learned on ArcMap of course I don't trust ArcGIS Pro Autosave. Manual save baby... all the time.

#GISChat In ArcGIS Online, I'd like to be able to Pin my projects in my content and in my organization, so that they are at the top of my screen. with a dropdown so I can see all the dependencies related to that product.

#GISChat I swear I must have made like 100 different decisions regarding making these snow plow maps for the city of Aurora. Really, I have only really made 1 map so far.

#GISChat I am creating a series of snowplow maps for the city of Aurora CO. I am really struggling with creating insets in the map series as it relates to the page in question? 1/x

#GISChat One possible solution I have thought through is that maybe I'll have two projects. One for the main portion of the map and then a second one for the insets. (I am looking at 15 maps for the main map and then some of those maps have 2 or three insets per page in the map series.) 2/x

#GISChat Then taking the all the maps and compiling them in Adobe illustrator? Any other ideas for how to work with insets when creating map series?

#GISChat So, I am working on a static map project for a team within my department. It requires me to create 17 maps of various routes for the folks who drive snow plows, essentially these maps will them them navigate and prioritize the routes that they should focus on. 1/x

#GISChat The goal of the scrap map is to do all of the initial data cleaning, processing and organizing of the datasets for the map. I use this map space to make mistakes, play with different techniques etc. Mistakes are welcome here. Essentially, a sandbox. 3/x

#GISChat The goal of the Final Development map is to have a space where i do all the fine tuning, the cartography and any page queries for layout design. This map gives me an idea of what the final product will look like and how to display it. End

#GISChat In creating these maps today and learning about page queries, I decided that because this map project is so large that I need a better process for handling all of this data. My new process involves creating what I am calling a Scrap Map and a Final Development Map. 2/x
