In life, those who share in your tallest mountain tops and lowest valleys are those whom we call friends. Living those experiences are sure to sort out your friends for you. Publishing a book and a family member’s death are two of those things. Let me tell you what a month it has been.

An eternal goodbye - infinitely difficult. But now we are home. And we will learn to navigate this world without Dad. I’m not sure how yet, but he loved us so well, so I am confident we will figure it out.

Dad is home. Hospice came in and prepared everything (as they do!). I am such a believer in the work of hospice and have had incredibly positive experiences in the past. Grateful my Dad will be comfortable at home now.

Sharing this because while I try to live pretty transparently on social media, it’s been hard to share my Dad’s sickness. I was a fool for having my heart tugged. Sadly, that’s both a lesson and a warning. And also why I have been so quiet. Friends, pray for my family.

I am so sorry. Sending light and breath, and my shortened version of my favorite Thich Naht Hanh meditation: In, out Deep, slow Calm, ease Present moment. 🕯💔

Long story short, work was never done. No response to my refund requests and finally just no response. My father was placed on hospice this week and that $ could have been a flight home. Angry doesn’t even cover it.

🌟 2 Weeks! My story, like that of many pastors, is a blend of joy and vulnerability. It’s tough to share, but the need is real. I hope you will join me in reading.Together, we can reimagine community, prioritze clergy mental health, and advance gender equity in the church.

The Nazis targeted disabled people first. They knew no one would speak up for us They tested the gas chambers on us Ableism and eugenics feed right into fascism and white supremacy Now more than ever we need folks to engage with disabled activists. Learn about disability justice. Help us resist.

Incoming vent: My IG was almost hacked/taken from me because I tried to support another woman entrepreneur with whom I had worked. I had money stolen from me this year because I naively tried to help someone looking for freelance extra work. Apparently, I should be done being nice?

One of the unexpected joys of this new book is that someone will say something about what’s going on in their life and I can say, « I have a liturgy for that. » Never could I have imagined being able to share my prayers and liturgies in this way. My heart is full. 🩷✨💛 #ruffledbygrace

My next article for @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social is out today. Thanks to my sister 💛 @liminalrj.bsky.social for helping me kick around a lot of these ideas.

@ruffledbygrace.bsky.social: The promise of American “greatness” is merely nostalgia, disembodied from history and reduced to “a set of aesthetic values identified with sentimentalism.” And we have let the sickness of nostalgia permeate our American political landscape. ✨ Part memoir. ✨ Part prayer book. ✨ All heart. With raw vulnerability and poetic prose, Michelle weaves her story from the stained-glass ceilings of the church to a life-giving ministry in Paris and rewriting what sacred service looks like. #RuffledByGrace
