Even if these dozens of incidents really are just accidents that happened to target the left—so what? Does that make it ok? In every other industry, we hold companies responsible for causing harm by failing to address known design flaws. So why wouldn't we hold tech companies to the same standard?

Democrats have pledged to investigate the enforcement action against No Kings' IG account if they retake control of the Senate after midterms. I hope they will also look into the incidents I catalogued in my investigation, which provides the most comprehensive account of the problem to date.

For example, as it was banning anti-racism accounts, Facebook *autogenerated* pages for white supremacist groups like the Aryan Brotherhood. It has also been paying anti-LGBTQ account holders in the lead-up to midterms as part of an invite-only content creators program.

My investigation also revealed evidence from TEN YEARS AGO of Meta citing the same technical error that they blamed for the enforcement error against the No Kings account. At the time, FB said it was "working hard to improve" that system, yet they're still repeating the same mistakes a decade later.

In my new piece, I describe Meta's disturbing pattern of "enforcement errors" against left-leaning accounts, including political candidates, BLM groups and anti-racism activists, LGBTQ orgs and businesses, abortion rights advocates, women's health specialists, feminists, and more.

To make matters worse, Meta's targeting of left-leaning accounts has often coincided with the company actively incentivizing far-right accounts to participate on its platforms.

Churches have historically given Americans a place to find one another beyond the reach of political power. But once entering that space becomes the basis for surveillance & intelligence-gathering, the govt has claimed authority not just over the building, but inside the decision to assemble at all.

Ultimately, the most consequential effect of this type of authoritarian system occurs before any actual enforcement actions take place. Surveillance shapes behavior in advance, so people begin to self-censor, avoid collective action, and withdraw from institutions that might invite scrutiny.

The targeted surveillance and infiltration of churches would be a scandal in any presidential administration, but it's particularly outrageous coming from the current administration that claims to be a champion of religious freedom.

In reality, the Trump administration’s supposed reverence for religious freedom only applies to politically favored Christian institutions. While conservative churches are held up as institutions deserving of protection from the government, churches that host dissent are subject to its wrath.

The defense motion in the case argues that investigators began with the assumption that a vast political conspiracy existed and then used federal surveillance powers to search for evidence supporting that assumption. It's a massive surveillance abuse.

The MN case bears striking resemblance to COINTELPRO, an illegal domestic spying program in which federal agents infiltrated political orgs, monitored lawful speech, recruited informants, and collected info about people whose primary offense was opposing the government or demanding political change.

ICE said it was searching for an organized network providing support to “violent opportunists & agitators” involved in assaults, riots, & attempts to impede law enforcement, but the records depict agents repeatedly surveilling people engaged in constitutionally protected activity — & nothing more.

At one meeting described by the undercover agent himself as being focused on "peaceful" protest, the agent told a participant that he worked in construction and could build items for more “direct-action” protests, saying that going to jail did not bother him.

There is no indication in the newly filed records that these people were suspected of committing a crime. They had done nothing beyond attending a political meeting inside a church.

At the churches, undercover agents reportedly made secret audio and video recordings while conducting surveillance. At one church event, a man approached two people recording license plates and asked whether they were ICE agents. One of the undercover agents falsely said they were not.

According to the filing, agents working for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) — a division within ICE — infiltrated at least four churches in MN, collecting info such as license plate numbers of attendees and then using that information to identify the vehicle owners.

Then, agents searched social media for photographs and posts, and assembled what the records called an “intel workup” on each person. The resulting intelligence dossiers allegedly included names, photographs, addresses, vehicle information, and even details about attendees’ families and employment.

According to newly filed court docs, federal agents were sent to pose as activists & infiltrate local churches in MN last winter, following the killing of two US citizens at the hands of ICE agents. The story deserves far more attention than it's getting.

Russian state media is using Patel's overtures to Russia as evidence that Moscow has regained legitimacy, leverage, & access inside Washington. A similar strategy was used with Tulsi Gabbard to imply that support for Ukraine was faltering, that Russia was right about Ukrainian bioweapons labs, etc.

That Russia would weaponize Patel's Moscow visit was extremely predictable — raising the question of why Patel would knowingly hand the Kremlin something to weaponize for its own goals. Perhaps that’s why he’s the Kremlin’s new favorite useful idiot. weaponizedspaces.substack.com/p/kash-patel...

Russian propaganda outlets have also highlighted Kash Patel's role as the American official who supposedly exposed the “Russiagate hoax,” saying Russia was right all along and using his words to legitimize the claim.

Russian state media relied largely on authority appropriation, a recurring strategy in which Russian media selectively amplify American officials whose statements or decisions overlap or align with Kremlin narratives, presenting them as courageous insiders who confirm what Moscow has said all along.

Senate Republicans could have had a legitimate hearing. Instead, they delivered a show trial in which the lawmakers most responsible for degrading public health capacity accused their target of betraying science — effectively laundering their own record through a performance of scientific concern.

Through this narrative attack, Republicans staged a form of epistemic inversion: the lawmakers who had spent years attacking scientific institutions were now recasting themselves as guardians of scientific integrity & placing a public health official on trial for supposedly “ignoring the science.”

The Republicans behind these attacks have histories of promoting anti-vaccine policies, defrauding Medicare, diverting funds for Medicaid to political PACs, and making it harder for people to vote — not exactly the ideal people to be giving advice about scientific integrity & trust in government.

Vaccines are one of the most important public health advancements by in history, and in many ways they’ve been a victim of their own success — they worked so well that people forgot how horrible these diseases are. Ironically, RFK Jr’s anti-vaccine agenda may be the very thing that reminds us.

I’ve studied vaccine misinformation for more than a decade, but I lost my job during Trump’s purge of government scientists last year. Writing is my full time job now, so please check out my latest piece & subscribe if you appreciate my work. Thank you! weaponizedspaces.substack.com/p/more-measl...

The public health consequences of RFK Jr’s leadership are obvious, but there’s an economic cost, too. Each case of measles costs $50k-100k, most of which falls on local & state health depts. Last year’s measles cases cost $244 million — and we’ve already exceeded that in the first 7 months of 2026.

Besides cutting funding for research on new vaccine technologies, terminating other vaccine research, & replacing expert panels with anti-vaccine zealots, the Trump admin has also obliterated fundings for misinformation research — so our defenses are being weakened right when we need them the most.

Vaccine misinformation and associated misconceptions about vaccine safety & effectiveness are significantly associated with vaccine delay and refusal — which is why it matters that the CDC changed the language on its website to call into question the statement that “vaccines do not cause autism.”

When RFK Jr. stepped into his role as the head of HHS, he promised to make America healthy again. Instead, he cut funding for crucial vaccine research and diverted resources to re-open lines of research that we’ve already done looking at debunked suspicions about vaccine-related harms.

The CDC has reported 35 measles outbreaks this year, almost all of which were among unvaccinated people. Some cases have also been reported among babies too young to be vaccinated and people with medical conditions who cannot receive the vaccine.

In recent years, MMR vaccination rates have fallen to 92.5% nationwide, which is lower than the 95% coverage needed to maintain herd immunity. In the map below, only the green states have rates above 95%, and even there, some local community rates dip below the threshold.

Measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000. That year, only 86 cases were reported nationwide. In just the first 7 months of 2026, we’ve already had over 2,300 measles cases — the highest annual total in 35 years.
