Nothing for me to add to what Nigella just said perfectly. Goodbye to Tom Lehrer. 🙏🏻

Oh no. Tom Lehrer gone. At his great age, it’s not a tragedy, I know, but it just does feel bad not having his genius in the world.

This seems like something to celebrate

I have just launched a "Lean companion" to my textbook "Analysis I": github.com/teorth/estim... . This gives a Lean translation (or paraphrasing) of the various definitions, theorems, and exercises in the textbook into Lean. Further discussion at terrytao.wordpress.com/2025/05/31/a...

I just noticed that I've been blocked by one of the mathematicians that I was following. She's probably right; I don't think our interactions were helping either of us. But I am still sad about it.

The latest in my history of home computers is live. Covers the era of Commodore, Atari and Jack Tramiel. He was a brutal manager. But also an Auschwitz survivor, and that shaped him, and his legit drive to build a better world. This warning from him hit home, right now. every.to/the-crazy-on...

I finally found a definition of the difference between a language and a dialect that I agree with! Thanks to Dave Huxtable quoting Max Weinreich on YouTube I now know אַ שפּראַך איז אַ דיאַלעקט מיט אַן אַרמיי און פֿלאָט (translated from Yiddish: A language is a dialect with an army and navy)

People are different.

I’m always looking for things that explain a lot but that people have a hard time remembering. Examples: Air is stuff. Pee comes from blood. All land vertebrates have a single common ancestor. Venus is bright enough to cast visible shadows. Clouds are heavy. Bones are alive. Any others you know?

You are up to date.
