there are really easy ways to convey aggressive malware via email these days. if i send ole byrnj62@gmail a link announcing itself as an app that lets him put Jamelle's head on various Lion King characters, i am confident he will not be able to resist that click...

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

kind of amazing to think that there are people who wake up in the morning, get mad at a fox news post and then send this stuff

Do it MacKenzie! Do it the way the Guardian is protected from billionaires in the UK - and if the portents needed to be any clearer, the Guardian is protected by the SCOTT Trust!

any condition of profound, systemic unsustainability (population overshoot, an outsized wealth bubble) taking this shape, invariably creates a dread-of-collapse sentiment, a kind of intensifying premonition of imminent reversal, felt most strongly by those closest to its apex.

Who is actually writing these fucking things? Steven Cheung? Or some kinda DonJohnGPT programmed to get capitalization and punctuation wrong with mechanical precision?

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

yes! this dude will back down to anyone who tells him to fuck himself! this is the only response worth having!

as of 4pm: @nytimes.com, @washingtonpost.com , @wsj.com finally summon the spine to mention the largest US anti-government protest in decades. Many still cravenly suppressing it

Toronto is close. The internet is everywhere. ICE is currently kidnapping kids from US college campuses using masked thugs in hoodies and unmarked cars. Probably best if @timothysnyder.bsky.social protects his voice from a safer redoubt than Yale right now.

Beth Deel@bethdeel.bsky.social

In your book ‘On Tyranny’ you say ‘don’t leave’ but you are leaving while institutions/people left and right are capitulating to a dictator - what does that say to the rest of us? I don’t have a huge platform and following but I have no choice but to fight.

🚨NEW: This is horrific. Musk & DOGE closed the specialist unit at Yale tracking down Ukrainian children kidnapped & stolen by Russia. HOWEVER, it now emerges the entire database may have been DELETED, destroying years of research needed to find missing children. If so, there should be arrests.

In order to keep licking pathetically at that delicious nectar of power, the entire Republican party has degenerated into a vicious, insatiable devourer of the United States of America. Hard to see how this ends until the opposition responds with rope.

BREAKING: Trump shuts off intelligence to Ukraine, cutting off data for drones, air attacks, and air defense This is a clear and direct violation of the Budapest Memorandum of 1994 - in which US gave security guarantee to Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine giving up nukes and ships

In intelligence agencies, opting for this sort of reality avoidance regarding matters of (climate change, Russian aggression, official corruption, ...) amounts to criminal negligence - active sabotage against the nation these agencies operate in. In what world is this not treason? 2/2

by which i mean... while i realize most of the SOTU tonight must be spent dwelling on presidential vanity, posturing, false claims and outright lies, I have some worries about larger issues relating to the continued structural integrity of our government and society.

rxsutton.bsky.social@rxsutton.bsky.social

I hope he talks a little at the SOTU tonight about where the new privatized #deathcamps are gonna get built. I was thinking Texas but it looks like Louisiana or Mississippi could work great too!

Trends suggest that masks snuffed the last measles outbreak in 2020. Too bad our govmint hates masks now. 2025 is gonna bury that 2019 high bar by April!

Trudeau: "We're probably gonna keep booing the American anthem. But let me tell Americans: we're not booing you ... we're booing a policy that is designed to hurt us. And we're insulted ... we're gonna fight. And we're gonna win."

1/3 (hospitality, decency, democracy, strategy, independence) + integrity. That was a tactical ambush by Trump and Vance, deployed in bad faith and executed incompetently. Their intent was to create a made-for-TV dominance performance, a public humiliation of Zelensky.

Timothy Snyder@timothysnyder.bsky.social

Here I react to the shameful behavior of American leaders and media toward the Ukrainian president. No doubt there were more, but I saw five failures on our side: of hospitality, decency, democracy, strategy, and independence. Please watch and share. snyder.substack.com/p/five-failu...

2/3 In this context it would have been entirely appropriate for Zelensky to ask Trump explicitly whether his loyalty is to America or to Russia (as follow-on to Trump's "Putin went through a hell of a lot with me" bit), or hit him with something even *more* explosive..

3/3 ..which Zelensky would have certainly delivered expertly had he known he was walking into a trap rather than a dignified chat between heads of state. Of course, VZ should've known: with these thugs there is never integrity (or any of the other 5 failures either)

2/2 But instead of confronting this existential enemy, the cowardly #magat way is to conjure foes where none exist, then perform some flavor of elaborate distraction theater in highly emotive and pulic ways to display power and agency. Seeking an example of unambiguous evil? This should do nicely.

"kill your kids to own the libs" pretty concise distillation of the essence of #magat philosophy.

Angry@angrystaffer.bsky.social

Confirmed to be an unvaxxed child. We have to talk about the foreign influence campaigns around vaccines. Hostile intelligence agencies — and their useful idiots in the US — are convincing the “do your own research” crowd to kill their children to own the libs.

Unfortunately Trump will be remembered as something infinitely more vile and destructive than a mere surrender artist.

3/3 But if this is the script for our current political regime, when does the obligatory mass-savagery begin? Everything moves faster now, so... Systematic, large scale incarcerations by 2026? Industrialized murder underway by 2028?

1/3 Significant chunks of this @theatlantic.com piece can be find-and-replaced with Trump = Hitler and Elon Musk = Alfred Hugenberg (the businessman turned politician who relentlessly dismantled workers' rights and purged ministeries) and it still reads seamlessly.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

“Though both Hitler and Hugenberg were fiercely anti-Communist, antidemocratic, anti-immigrant, and anti-Semitic, their attempts at political partnership failed spectacularly and repeatedly.” Timothy Ryback on Hitler‘s relationship with his oligarchs:

2/3 Obviously this is how the article was constructed, but the parallels only make sense as both Trump and Musk as well as many in the cast of #magat loyalists obsessively fetishize Hitler and the Nazis and live their entire political lives as a kind of Nazi cosplay performance.

3/4 But this is such a classic case of bringing piss to a shitfight. Democrats succumb to the same trap that strangled the #Quakers, who by removing themselves so far from the line of scrimmage, with their pacifism and universal friendliness and whatnot, took themselves out of the game completely.

4/4 When your enemies have become unambiguously corrupt and evil and you do not have vastly superior numbers to overwhelm them peaceably, tastefully, you best consider compromising your piety and be willing to dirty your hands at least a little. Or the filthy magats will eat you alive.

2/4 One worries that the entire Democratic Party hobbles itself by being too squeamish, unwilling to insult or villainize the opposition because ... poor form? too lowbrow? afraid of opening us up to similar disparagement with tasteless namecalling?

mass dissatisfactioon > mass protests > insurrection act. putin wants americans in a civil war and trump will do his best to deliver.

Timothy Snyder@timothysnyder.bsky.social

Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power. (2/2)
