Wildwood may be my new choice for the best movie of 2026, holy shit. Incredibly rough in a very old school '80s way, but it's all fully earned by the story so it doesn't come off like a try-hard edgelord.

China’s first AI-generated theatrical film, ‘Sanxingdui: Future Past’, has bombed at their domestic box office, only making $121,000 USD against a budget of $1.5M USD. In contrast, the crudely animated ‘Niu Lai’ made nearly $10M USD against a budget of $200-500 USD.

James Gunn continues to be awesome.

DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has defended the DCU's approach to interconnected stories, saying he doesn't want movies like Clayface to exist just to "set up" crossovers. https://bit.ly/4Bi51tA

It’s become a popular joke that our entire concept of what various ages are supposed to look like are completely fucked because of all the lead that used to be poisoning us. So now everyone gets constantly told how young they look for their age.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

So, I've mostly really loved the two new MST3K episodes we've gotten so far, but the ending of Deathsport left a really bad taste in my mouth, and actually made me think a bit less of everyone involved that they were willing to attach their names to it.

The whole thing is just horribly lazy, and I want to say to Mike, Bill, or whoever came up with this, does it make you feel like a big man to talk shit about such a beloved titan of the industry, who died just recently? Why don't you go after David Lynch next, that'll really get you edgelord points.

I also can't help thinking this is payback for how Corman famously didn't care for the show, and called it anti-art. I of course disagree with him there, but if anyone had earned the right to voice that opinion it was him, and this just makes the show's crew look like the whiners they're mocking.

Every single thing Brain Guy says is not only true, but a good thing, like how Corman was responsible for so many great directors getting their foot in the door of the industry, and being way ahead of his time in presenting strong female heroes. So how do they make that sound bad?

Well, it's simple: Bill Corbett simply delivers the whole thing with the kind of whiny, annoying tone that instantly makes you want to disagree with whatever the person who's using it is saying. That's literally it: present a bunch of things in Corman's favor, just with a bad delivery.

The premise is that Brain Guy starts talking like an annoying Roger Corman fan until Pearl gets fed up and disintegrates him, and everything about the presentation indicates she's the one who our sympathy is supposed to be with. Just one problem...

My favorite tidbit about him: Robert Redford really wanted him to play the father in Ordinary People, but he turned it down on the advice of his agent. Then 30 years later, he played Timothy Hutton's father in Leverage.

RIP Tom Skerritt, a reliable and enduring actor who you probably remember from...everything, basically. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...

If Season 2 of Carrie is going to continue to spread out into Stephen King land, and Flanagan wants to keeps Samantha Sloyan on, there's a certain other role I can really see her fitting...

In Zoolander, Ben Stiller forgot his next line and tried to restart the scene by repeating "But why male models?" Then David Duchovny responded to it in character, and they decided it fit him enough to keep in.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Between Widow’s Bay and Crystal Lake, Hamish Linklater seems to suddenly be the go-to guy for playing quietly sinister, gaslighting husbands in horror stories. I’d guess it’s springboarding off Midnight Mass.

Anyone calling this show a Surf Dracula has very obviously not seen it, just as much as anyone saying Netflix’s East of Eden makes Cathy a “girlboss.” Every episode has at least one insane gore effect that really made me queasy, after I got through all of Saw without ever looking away.

Skydance’s market value has dropped below $40 billion — down from the nearly $89 billion its predecessor companies were worth combined. Warner Bros. Discovery was valued at $77.7 billion and Paramount Skydance at around $11 billion on October 5, their final day of trading on Nasdaq.

Crystal Lake is absolutely bringing the goods. I’ve developed a pretty hard stomach for gore, and was able to get through every Saw movie without looking away, but there’s one bit in the first episode that really got to me.

I was warned about a lot of stuff in The Help, but no one told me how many major scenes are centered around people on the toilet. The movie’s enough of a slog, I really don’t need the writer’s poorly disguised fetish on top of it.

Not using references is why this happened.

LaurenWalshArt@laurenwalshart.bsky.social

Use reference. I’m serious. I get it that somehow you or someone convinced you that using reference is “cheating.” It’s not. You are just hindering yourself.

Not that MASH ever made much pretense about really being set in Vietnam, but one episode has Radar showing his comic collection and pretty much all of them are from after 1952.

You know what else Larry McMurtry wrote besides Lonesome Dove? Terms of Endearment. Yes, the most famous “chick flick” ever made, where Shirley MacLaine runs around screaming about a shot.

"If more books were published by men with explicitly masculine themes, would there actually be a wider male readership?" This is very much in the Platnerian mode that presumes all men are only attracted to content by, for, and possibly about Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor. jacobin.com/2026/10/lone...
