What day of campaign operative school do they teach you the following statements attached to debate clips? "This was the moment candidate x's campaign ENDED!" or "Can't wait to see this in an upcoming tv ad!"

Is there anything more satisfying in fatherhood than finding a seasonal item that you packed perfectly put away and readily accessible for the next year?

We are in the RGV in Texas where Senate candidate James Talerico is joining the US Hispanic Business Council remotely after revealing he was diagnosed with the flu and was told by doctors he was at his “most contagious.”

Ken Paxton appeared before this same group- the US Hispanic Business Council- on Monday in Dallas. It’s one of the few forums in this senate race where both candidates will appear. No debates have been scheduled.

JUST IN: Senator Mitch McConnell will cast his first votes in the Senate since June TONIGHT. “Today, I’ll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June. I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues.

President Trump keeps claiming the arena is completely packed.. he just said it’s filled all the way to the rafters. It’s just not. It is a decent crowd.. but the entire upper deck is empty. His claim that every seat is filled & “thousands” of people are outside is false.

During his speech here in Texas.. President Trump gave Senate Majority Leader John Thune a shout out and said he had a “tough job.” It was met my a chorus of boos from the convention crowd.

We are roughly 10 minutes out from President Trump’s keynote address at the GOP midterm convention. Here is a look inside the arena. The President will speak tomorrow night as well. VP JD Vance will be the headliner tonight.

NEW: I asked swing district Republican Rep. Rob Wittman three different times if he wants President Trump to campaign with him in Virginia. This is how he responded:

The big regret of my journalism career was that I never got the chance to serve as a campaign embed.. If you are a young reporter who wants to cover politics.. don't miss out on that chance! Apply to be a part of our rockstar @NBCNews campaign team. jobs.smartrecruiters.com/NBCUniversal...

Teaching your kid to drive is the most terrifying- yet at the same time- most mundane basic responsibility of being a parent. They just give this child the ability to operate a death machine.. and you are literally just along for the ride.

The Dem primary results in Florida are stunning and wild to analyze . *DSA Sen candidate Nixon wins by 12 *Former GOP rep Jolly wins gov race by 45 *Mods Moskowitz & DWS win easily over lefty challengers All on the same night in the same state!

UPDATE: @NBCNews projects Rep. Ralph Norman will advance to the SC GOP primary for Senate. He will face off against Darline Graham on August 25th for the GOP nomination for the fall election.

JUST IN: @NBCNews projects that Darline Graham will advance to the runoff in South Carolina’s Senate GOP primary. It is a tight race for who goes with her between Reps. Russell Fry and Ralph Norman.

Hello from South Carolina.. tonight GOP voters begin selecting a nominee to replace Lindsey Graham. This is expected to go to a runoff. We are finding many voters like Bob, skeptical of Graham’s sister Darline. “I don't think that it's necessary just to give it to her.”

The concept of Congressional Republicans standing up to the Trump White House in any sort of meaningful way is truly a fantasy. It doesn’t really happen. We may have thought McCain’s thumbs down was the start of something.. but it was actually the end.

BREAKING: Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) said he will vote YES on Todd Blanche’s nomination. This means Blanche has enough votes to be confirmed as the next Attorney General.

JUST IN: Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski (R) will vote NO on Todd Blanche’s nomination for Attorney General. One more no vote and Blanche will be denied confirmation. Susan Collins (R-ME) is also a no, Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is undecided and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is still absent.

JUST IN: Sen. Mitch McConnell announces that he has been discharged from a rehab facility and will now continue his recovery at home. There is no timeline on when he may return to work in the U.S. Senate.

BREAKING: In a new video, Graham Platner announces he is suspending his campaign for U.S. Senate, opening the door for Maine Democrats to pick a new candidate to take on incumbent Susan Collins this fall.

The Platner Campaign held an all hands call today and were told the candidate will address his situation later today. It seemed like that meant he would talk to the campaign staff.. not the general public.. but that was not abundantly clear.

The Bernie Sanders aligned political group "Our Revolution" officially backs Troy Jackson to replace Graham Platner in the Maine Senate Race. (Platner has not dropped out yet) Our Revolution ED Joseph Geevarghese says "this is not the Democratic establishment’s opening to handpick a replacement."

It was not easy getting out of the National Mall.. there was a huge bottleneck of people trying to get out through one of a few exits. This particular route was complicated by sprinklers going off, soaking people in tight quarters.

The most impressive thing tonight at the 250 celebration on the National Mall has been the military band. They have been legit bringing it with incredible cover songs throughout the entire fireworks.

Trump begins his speech by saying he was willing to go on at 4am if he needed to. He acknowledges that many people did not stay, but said it was still worth it and is in some ways “more beautiful.”

The America 250 event is back open on the National Mall.. people are making their way back in after being scattered around DC during the passing storm. The President has promised to start speaking at 11p ET with fireworks to follow.

We are getting set for your coverage of America’s 250th Anniversary.. the program on the National Mall begins at 7.. crowds were not allowed in until 5pm because of the hot weather. Now we are bracing for the possibility of thunderstorms. Watch live: nbcnews.com/live

I am so honored to be filling in for Kristin Welker on Meet the Press today. We talk to Roger Marshall (R-KS) & Chris Murphy (D-CT) and with NY Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan about their new book “Regime Change”. Tune in on your local NBC station.

Status update on Senate GOP and White House relations: *Zero insight on Iran deal. *Trump puts Clayton Nomination on hold demands SAVE. *Thune says no chance SAVE passes. *Cotton says we are doing Clayton hearing anyway. The relationship is fundamentally broken.

BREAKING: Senate GOP leaders have postponed plans to pass a budget reconciliation package designed to fund ICE & CBP because of concerns around the DOJ weaponization fund. This is remarkable given that the weaponization fund was/is not part of the original bill.
