Aka Raymond. S(n|h)ep. 41, male, commie. SF Bay. I make things, enjoy outdoors, play guitar, and other nerd stuff. Sometimes NSFW. Former particle physicist (PhD) (+salt miner), but now I make software. Using "AI" for science since '05.

Tribute albums are always fun. This has an overall "80s" vibe to it, which makes for some interesting sounds. Biggest disappointment is there were plenty more tracks they could have covered instead of multiple copies of the big ones

in general I struggle with this. I always feel like I'm bothering people if I message them directly, so I post my successes/failures/woes/dreams on here and hope someone wants to engage. I know it "shouldn't" be that way, but I don't know how it "should" work

I love a good endurance event. Maybe because it breaks all routines, but there's something a bit special about doing a thing for 24+ hours. And being in a mode where procrastination isn't an option. But now back to the office and meetings

watched the Backrooms. It made me extremely anxious but not for the reasons it wanted me to be, I don't think. The visuals were of course great and the best part, at least if you are like me and like the liminal space aesthetic stuff

opposing "AI": reactionary; might as well oppose the loom instead oppose the capitalist mode of production that delivers the fruits of the technology to the owner class, and the superstructure that wants to use AI for antisocial purposes

briefly scanning the new gTLD applications: most popular was .agent with 13 applications 2 applications for .furry; one of them from a company also trying to get .tiger and .dragon (and a whole bunch of others) 4 applications for .king, only 2 for .queen 2 applications for .uwu, zero for .owo

it is nice to be in an office where the response to "some idiot thinks it's okay to drop their weights in the gym and shake the whole building" is "we'll tell them to stop" and not "we can't disrupt the cult the CEO's fitness instructor buddy is forming"

NASA's Astronomy Photo of the Day site got a facelift from its 2000s design. The URLs changed from deterministic dates to inconsistent slugs. That broke my script for grabbing images to display on idle screens. I fixed it, but I wish every update to software didn't make things flashier but worse.
