The combined executive dysfunction and RSD, I think. "Oh I needed to do a thing and forgot, or sat here unable to do it, and now someone will be mad at me so I'd better wait for the right moment to discuss the consequences." Also locking in at work leaves me too drained for anything else.

If you have ADHD (diagnosed or very strong suspicion) I have a question for you What ADHD symptom/quirk/characteristic has been the most detrimental to your life to date? For me, it’s my challenge w attention to detail & my terrible memory. I’ve lost more jobs than most ppl work their whole lives

Like I am keeping my job, I'm even considered one of the best in my department, but I cannot modulate between forcing myself to really focus or completely fucking up. So i spend everything getting through the workday and can barely stay awake after dinner.

It would be delightful if Dressmaker designs could somehow be exported to port into other games. The FFXIV girlies would have such a great time with it. I get that it's a good game by itself, of course, albeit not for me.

Silent Hill: Townfall almost scared me at one point early on, but I have simply played so many games by this point that I noticed the field of rakes it was lovingly putting in its path at least an hour before it started sprinting toward them.

Yeah, I love this place, it's cozy and the seafood chowder is so goodGROWR. GRURR. WROWF. Fuck, I'm sorry, looks like someone WROWF triggered my alert state but they must be standing GRURR somewhere outside my pathfinding GROWR so I'm stuck repeating my alert grunts GRURR until I lose aggro WROWF.

Name your game like it's a Godspeed B side. Name your game after a half-remembered line from a poem you liked. Name your game after a sick mot juste a character delivers 30 hours in.

Pretty much every puzzle in a game, especially survival horror, is unique with specific logic. You don't get better at the puzzles. Doing one puzzle does not make you better at future puzzles. Now, I am an idiot, so maybe that's unavoidable, but I'd rather beat my head against a souls boss.

Anyway, going to stick it out because I am curious about the story and I like the atmosphere, but this experience has heightened my quibbles with other elements of the game like monster design.

So after corpserunning my way out of a stalker section, I walked into a puzzle I almost liked. But! It required me to look at contextless clues arranged on a wall, sequences of letters, then run back to the previous room to correlate them with other clues.

I just check out of any puzzle that requires me to memorise stuff. I might have given it a try if I wasn't still salty about the time wasted on the stalker zone. My enduring annoyance with puzzles in games is how rarely they cohere mechanically.

Townfall's autosave triggers make this a bit aggravating too. Essentially adding a kind of boss runback to mandatory stealth sections with a stalker than can instakill you, and is always moving in the same general direction you are. Always behind you, or around the corner.

Did you misjudge an angle, bump into a locked door, or walk into an empty room? Fuck you! Spend several minutes in a closet or die. The way this hide-and-seek bullshit slows things down feels disrespectful of my time. You can outrun the stalker, but not so much the smaller guys.

After getting caught a couple of times, the stalker is no longer scary or interesting. The puzzle, such as it is, is no longer interesting. So the corpse-runs begin; sprinting around to locate the interact points, dying, and reloading with a memorised route.

Townfall exacerbated this by having a handful of small, killable enemies around. In concept, I actually liked that. In execution, the AI is designed to keep you under threat. The stalker always knows your approximate location, and moves faster than comparable enemies in similar games.

Inevitably, every run-and-hide horror game burns out my patience and goodwill by having at least one area with three interact points, scattered across some rooms and corridors, with an unkillable stalker roaming around. And of course, it's dark as shit.

My other big writing ambition I'll never achieve is the horror archive. A box of dossiers, inventories, transcripts, incident reports, invoices, etc. that a suitably obsessive reader will find contains a horror story.

I surmise that most monsters depicted in Backrooms media of all origins do not represent apex predation of that environment, and I would therefore simply run screaming toward them to assert dominance.

I'm not saying anyone should, and maybe they still could not, but Backrooms da movey increases the likelihood someone will put House of Leaves on screen--where it will be called a rip off, and bomb.

I have some writing ambitions that I don't think I'll ever have the skill to achieve, but one of them is the horror of comprehension. Anyone who knows me or my work knows I love restraint in horror. If it takes an hour for a monster to show up I'm hooting and hollering.

The fear of the unknown is all well and good, but I want to write something where the fear comes from finally understanding. Where putting the pieces together constitutes some terrible revelation, that recontextualises either what we've seen so far or what we understand of the world.

And that somehow, the knowing is part of the horror. Not merely the thing that you understand but the fact or sensation of understanding it. I've gestured at this with the basilisk equation in Benighted Stars but I know I have not, and likely never will, nail it.

I am an eternal sucker for "character who is insanely good at violence but desperately trying at all times not to use violence"

Look I'm sorry but no one is replacing "Grouchy Mentor With Heart of Gold" for me - Grouchiness is proof of Extreme Wisdom - Not given many chances to prove self as actually a good sport, but - Soft when it MATTERS and - Giant a-hole the rest of the time

When I was a kid I was obsessed with this big hardback book with a generic title like "The Greatest UFO Stories Ever Told". Kinda night-sky blue with a flying saucer on the cover, no memory of the author. Wish I could find a copy again.

Listening to Just King Things, and wondering to myself if anyone has ever written about depictions of sexuality in King's bibliography. To my recollection, kink and masturbation are both reserved for antagonists whereas the protagonists mostly do monogamous missionary with the lights off.

I wouldn't know about that, ma'am. The big accounts, even the mid accounts be beefing and it goes right over my head it does. I'm a simple lowbie, ma'am. Only a reply guy when the harvest is good an' rarely enough that. I pays a like to m'ladyship and to m'theydiship and keeps my head down.

Shout out deep-throaters. I accidentally swallowed a fairly intact chunk of sausage yesterday and choked a bit. Throat still feels stretched and it hurts to swallow a day later. Huge respect to anyone taking that kind of punishment recreationally.

Your work will be called "porn" the moment it is convenient to power to define it that way. Solidarity is our only useful option.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

if you are any kind of creative or artist or writer you *have* to understand sex workers and porn/erotica artists/authors as being members of the same class as us. to the extent society recognizes a difference between "legitimate" art and porn, it's only as a tenuous, convenient, temporary fiction.
