all this hate towards dhh and omarchy makes sense, but hate towards people taking inspo from it is just bad. let people do what they want and learn. linux ricing isn’t “wannabe” behaviour. it’s just another way of exploring something. tired of seeing my feed filled with so much negativity ugh

can atproto spaces be used for implementing messaging? right now – kinda like discord cuz no encryption later – something with e2ee am i understanding this right? been out of the loop for a good bit

i work at ikea as a contractor but have the same limits as employees. we get $500 worth of github copilot credits per month. we might not be doing the same stuff as big tech, but at scale things get complex. nobody in my team has had any issues with these limits.

AI token budget consensus I'm hearing from friends at >150 developer companies is ~$3000-4000/mo per developer. Which is equivalent to buying every developer a new Macbook Pro every month. My guess is we spend more and more per developer going forward, but hopefully on raw compute not model APIs.

us: we are struggling to figure out the best way to use coding agents, we don't have clarity yet everyone else: our team is moving at speeds unheard of, all our PRs are ai generated, we've cleared 6 years of backlog man we must really suck huh

Anybody following me that could give this a push? We're trying to get as many people involved as possible!

Reminder that the first MalmöJS meetup is happening in less than 24 hours. A few spots still remain. malmojs.com

I’ll be in Malmö on Feb 25 for the first edition of MalmöJS. We’ll talk about running Node.js at scale: real performance, backpressure, event loop limits, and systems that fail and recover safely. 👉 luma.com/q52blone

one of the biggest challenges we face in my team while in development, is types. specifically, the generation of types. our server-side apps are written in JS with JSDoc annotations for type hints. lint tools also help with enforcing these types. the issue however, is creating these types. 1/3

we use json schemas to build and enforce contracts. everything starts from a json schema in the team. the problem is that json schemas cannot be use as-is to get the lovely intellisense when writing code. devs (naturally) don't want to sit and write types after they just wrote schemas. 2/3

i'm helping organize the first event for learning and sharing all things JS in Malmö, Sweden. Limited spots available. If you are or know someone in Malmö/Öresund region who would be interested, please do share! Looking forward to seeing you there 🫡

🔥 NEW BANTER: "Scaling Node.js with the Right Signals: ELU" CPU utilization is lying to you. Your auto-scaler adds pods while your actual bottleneck gets worse. Luca and I explain why ELU is the metric you should be watching. 📅 Feb 4th

i am gonna nuke my website repo locally, and start from scratch. I didn't spent too long designing it to my liking and I was fine with it. but now i cannot spend more than 1 min on it without feeling like it could be better.

i want to make it super super super simple and minimal. no fancy colors or styles. might add a dyslexia-friendly font into it as well. i don't know if they actually help, so maybe someone else can attest to that.

overengineering really is a thing, and it didn't make sense until i tried to implement CQRS into a simple application I was working on. the pr to remove that implementation made me feel like i could finally rest.

my mic stopped working the other day. it was a random one i bought off amazon a whiiile back. got a sennheiser profile now, and just holding it made me feel like a streamer. is this a sign?

i’ve been wanting to play around with zig for a while, and a coworker wanted to learn rust. we decided to each build a tower defense in our lang of choice, and to keep each other accountable. absolutely love it when this stuff happens! i’ll also post updates here!

Tangled is essentially yet another get forge but uses at Proto as the social layer of social coding. Knots are the actual stores of code which communicate and you can host your own while still communicating with the rest of the network. @oppi.li did I miss anything?

Good software engineers don't need feedback. This was one of the big things I had to unlearn early in my management career. Prior to Microsoft, I worked at a small company -- roughly 8 people when I started.

what's your flow for reviewing PRs? i started off by going to "files changed", then reviewing them in the order that made sense. now, i go commit by commit. and i much prefer this approach.

debugging CI can be such a bore! we're making clever use of git-push-options to help you debug your CI woes right in the terminal: big thanks to @poor.dog for making this happen! 4/5

the gamble is that you won't ever have to learn or understand what you're doing — so you don't need to start now. each day you don't learn stuff you have to double down on that bet because you're losing time. and peer pressure reinforces it

Kommentar@kommentar.dev

What is Kommentar? A way to add comments to any website or application. Who is Kommentar? @safwanyp.com and everyone who may use it! Why is Kommentar? I wanted a way to add comments to my personal site, so I built Kommentar.

I've been away from this project for a long time. Looking back, I think I picked the wrong idea to pursue. I cannot find the motivation to keep working on it. atproto is still something i wanna develop on, so maybe a different idea this time (or skymdb if i can find the motivation)

Safwan Parkar@safwanyp.com

Gonna follow in @mubashariqbal.com's steps and create a thread with all the work I will be doing for atproto-moviedb. It will essentially be imdb/tmdb but on atproto. Was thinking of calling it skymdb, any thoughts? #buildinpublic

Help me out by trying to break this! I am sure I have missed something lol Also, comments are anonymous and you do not have to put in your real name or anything like that :D

Just rolled out comments on my personal site powered by my side project Kommentar (kommentar.dev). Look, break it, and let me know what you think! Site: safwanyp.com A blog post: safwanyp.com/blog/learnings-over-the-past-year/

turned off ai autocomplete on my editor recently. honestly, as much as it helps me write code faster, it was definitely making me forget simple things. back to the stone ages i go with no auto completion lmao

i took a really long break from almost all socials except for instagram and whatsapp to still stay in touch with people. feels like a good time to come back.
