Big tech cannot be regulated or rehabilitated; it must be removed from the grasp of corporate and shareholder interests and handed over to the people. Their technology is so psychologically and sociologically influential and ubiquitous that it's beyond unethical to allow tech oligarchs this power.

And, tech companies don't exclusively fund their own R&D; it's no secret that many major tech companies have gladly spent billions of tax payer money without your consent, and that's not even taking into account the value of the government built internet infrastructure that they need to even exist.

Big tech cannot be regulated or rehabilitated; it must be removed from the grasp of corporate and shareholder interests and handed over to the people. Their technology is so psychologically and sociologically influential and ubiquitous that it's beyond unethical to allow tech oligarchs this power.

"But they funded their tech, they should keep the profits!" Profit isn't the problem; power and its extent are. Benefiting humanity doesn't necessitate profit. Jonas Salk, inventor of the polio vaccine, asked, "Could you patent the sun?", implying accessibility for all.

One British person: "Look at this weird thing I eat" American: "Look at this weird thing all British people eat!"

I baffled my wife earlier when I used the word "hosepipe" instead of "hose". Turns out that hosepipe is a British term, which I didn't know. After all these years of knowing each other, there are still cultural blind spots.

One of the biggest misconceptions worshippers of the wealthy have is that their innate intellect and talent was the key to their success. In reality, most are mediocre. Their success comes down to luck and the privilege of being able to fail multiple times thanks to generational wealth.

I made this model piano music box with working keys. I wish it played Debussy instead of Canon in D, but it's still lovely.

Remember those Amazon brick & mortar, cashier-less stores where you could just walk out, AI cameras would tally up your order and credit your account? That was largely fake. Most cams were just CCTV, & the feeds were seen in India by a staff of 1k, who basically guessed what was being bought 1/2

theguardian.comSo, Amazon’s ‘AI-powered’ cashier-free shops use a lot of … humans. Here’s why that shouldn’t surprise you | James BridleThis is how these bosses get rich: by hiding underpaid, unrecognised human work behind the trappings of technology, says the writer and artist James Bridle

It's an increasingly common trick tech companies are using to sell AI to investors: show off fancy tech, fake it, take the quickest, most expensive (and destructive) shortcuts to get it to market, then collect the winnings after the damage is done. It's the same with the AI bubble right now 2/2

N.B. Oh, and these stores basically saved next to nothing income-wise by not hiring employees. It wasn't really about the stores themselves though, they served as a beta test to license the tech to store chains, which is at the core of the AI frenzy: remove humans from jobs en masse.

Hey there, tomorrow I'll be starting a new model build on my stream. This time I'm making a piano music box, made almost entirely from wood, and without using any glue. Come along, hang out, chat, and listen to some good music with me, 2pm EDT: www.twitch.tv/jsalari ◀️ 💜

Breaking news: Sony will cease production of all PlayStation consoles in 2029. You will still be able to purchase game licenses and DLC via the PlayStation mobile app, but you won't be able to play them anywhere.

I hate to be a doomer about this stuff but the future of gaming is bleak. Physical media dying out, legendary studio closures, layoffs, mismanagement, & players have to pick up the bill for C-suite blunders, like bloating hardware costs thanks to AI integration Pathetic www.ign.com/articles/son...

ign.comSony Just Killed Discs: Physical Disc Production to End January 2028 for New Games Releasing on PlayStation Consoles in 'Watershed Moment for the Industry'Sony has announced physical disc production ends in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles.

Oh, & don't forget having to wait up to 6 YEARS or more for a AAA studio to release ONE game that costs about a billion to make, & if that game underperforms they're effed Remember when Naughty Dog made games other than remakes before Sony forced them to do a doomed live service game? Good times...

Every time I see a clip or a GIF of The Nostalgia Critic, I feel a tinge of pride knowing that I've never enjoyed anything he's ever done - even when I was much younger, impressionable, and didn't know any better.

I finished listening to the audiobook of "Bullshit Jobs: A Theory" by the late David Graeber An exceptional book that explores a frequently ignored aspect of our lives: how in our pursuit to create jobs just so people can prove they belong in society, we abandoned the idea of meaningful work.

Don't know about you, but I would rather watch a 3 hour video narrated by someone with a monotone voice than a 10 minute video with an "upspeak" vocal inflection, where everything they say sounds like a question.
