I've got a left-field name for the Coach of the Year convo: Eric Quill. The FC Dallas manager has given his team an impressive Plan A (quick transition attacking) and a capable Plan B (hyper-fluid ball control). Color me impressed 🔴 For @backheeled.com ⤵️

backheeled.comMLS Winners and Losers: Nashville SC win the Shield, Eric Quill's Coach of the Year case & moreThis week, we marvel at a trophy winner. We also do a lot of other stuff.

This was oddly true for me. I checked before I went and it said 15 minutes. I thought it was wrong in the other direction. Ended up waiting over 40 minutes in line. Doesn't matter though, go vote no matter what.

That makes sense. The line has been cheeks this year, so something had to change.

At the request of @mattdoyle.bsky.social, turn data for MLSNP. I'll flag that 2nd on turn rate is 14 year old (now 15) Lucas Dawson of TFC2. Pretty damn nice.

FC Dallas attacker Sam Sarver sent off for this interaction with the Houston Dynamo crowd in the dying moments of his team's 2-2 draw. Dallas just equalized from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time and were celebrating... Fans threw objects at the FCD players

OK starting to understand the Musa issues with that average position chart. That just can't be it.

FC Dallas thanks to their win and other results have clinched a 2026 MLS Cup playoff spot. What a season this has turned into.

Andy Avalos as the interim is the easy move, he can do that for the rest of the season. But going forward? Kane Womack? Charles Huff? Would PJ Fleck bring his... whatever that is to Fort Worth? I hate it here.

Also hiring an OC that's a former oline who has a penchant for running the ball only to have a terrible line and no ability to run sure is the exact opposite of ideal.

FCD's leader in this category might surprise you

So now, what we are establishing is a chain. A set of related actions that improve shot value. We could call this the "Shooter Chain". The Shooter Chain looks like this: Receive KP → Dribble → Shoot (g+ Receive) → (g+ Dribbling) → (g+ Shooting) g+ Shooter Chain leaders:

The Senate can pass a bill to regulate college sports, but they can't pass bills to lower the price of gas, groceries, or healthcare. They can't rein in Trump's thirst for war in Iran or trade wars with Canada, but they can tell college athletes how often they're allowed to transfer. Cool.

I love John but this feels the right call overall. FCD can now look for a coach that can create better alignment with the first team, which will hopefully lead to a more defined pipeline of talent.

Changes are coming to North Texas SC as the club parts ways with head coach John Gall. www.bigdsoccer.com/north-texas-...

When people say "There's money in women's sports these days" they're not wrong. But not all money is good money, and I'm worried that the current progression of women's sports funding is less "Genuine investment" and more "Slapdash profit grab." Feels that way.

The Connecticut Sun's final game is tonight. Connecticut and its fans bought into the WNBA at its low point, turning a profit when the NBA's owners saw the league as a moneypit, only to lose their team now that everyone sees big bucks in women's sports. Some thoughts on the setting of the Sun:

Transaction alert: FC Dallas signs goalkeeper Daniel to a new contract through 27-28 with a pair of options after. Been rumored for awhile that Dallas was looking to get this done, and it looks like they got it over the libe.

an apology is better than several alternatives, but personally i always feel off when the initial comment comes from someone's voice and face and the apology is Phone Text

Also why are media members laughing at a subject they're supposed to be covering making a joke of/actively demeaning one of their colleagues? I don't expect much from folks in that space but damn, even for y'all this is a new low. Have a little shame.

This is badass and I'm glad someone is doing it Also:

The fact that they were worse than the Panthers, who gave up 59 points, is WILD

Sheil Kapadia@sheilkapadia.bsky.social

Based on EPA/drive, the Cowboys had the worst defensive performance by any team in Week 1. It was worse than all but one of their defensive games last year. Among 574 games since the start of last season, it ranked 571st. 7 possessions: 4 TDs, 1 punt, 1 fumble, ran clock out.

Hard to say that taunting was after the touchdown when he starts taunting at the two yard line before crossing the goal line actively taunting the opposition

Matthew Doyle@mattdoyle.bsky.social

I made the point yesterday that Logan Farrington should be, at the very least, on the fringes of the #USMNT pool. Sequences like this are why. 1. Stretches the field to provide an outlet over the top. 2. Out-battles CB for possession 3. Drops in & stays patient 4. Threads CM into the box.

I love those (estimated) playoff numbers
