Today, we ran our first live test of Calyros - our crafting-focused, Ancient Greek themed MMO. Windows, Mac and Steam OS all working well across the network. Now the focus moves to reintroducing environment assets 😁 #gamedev #solodev #indiedev 🎮 #godot #mmo

I’m preparing a first build of my MMO and on a whim I thought “maybe it’ll build for steam deck?” 🎮 It does 😏 #indiedev #solodev #gamdev

Is discord actually going to start requiring ID checks? Or do we think they’ll walk this back? Also, where are people gonna go instead? For all the problems with discord, people like it and are used to it. Getting users to join your anonymous group chat is gonna be way harder now #gamedev

It’s been a while since I posted an update about my online RPG, Calyros But, today I got the game servers up and running. Plugged into the router in my living room, like the old days Probably a few weeks away from a playable version, but still very exciting #solodev #indiedev #gamedev

The advice to build something small instead of your dream game for your first project it great, it’s just that building something you’re not excited about is haaarrrrddd

Wild how so many people are enthusiastic about building a technology specifically designed to send you to the poor house

Remember, kids: A real big goal of "AI" is to entirely sever capital from labor, and no, there will be no universal basic income, you can all just starve and die, thanks www.axios.com/2025/08/26/a...

Got sidetracked and spent a day reworking trees in Calyros. Now I have unlimited procedurally generated and animated trees! I want to work on the foliage a bit more, but it's pretty good, I think! Any suggestions? #godot #indiedev #solodev #gamedev

The only feature JetBrains has added for a while that I’ve really loved is the many islands theme in EAP. They released the version without the theme 😢

Any game devs had this feeling? Theres probably a name for it in German. My games not good, it’s not finished, it’s not even remotely like the final product, but it “feels” like what it’s supposed to for the first time. What’s that called? #gamedev #solodev #indiedev #godot

Added doors to Calyros, animated and everything! Okay, the animation is pretty terrible, but it's a good start given that the objects themselves are all procedurally generated #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #godot

For game devs who don’t/didn’t know how to code, what are/were your biggest hurdles? I came to gamedev from software dev so took writing code for granted but I realise game devs come from lots of disciplines. Curious to know about peoples experiences? #gamedev #software #coding

Calyros now has walls, doors, windows and floors - all procedurally generated. I like procedurally generating stuff in this way, because after building it once, I can can unlimited buildings of different sizes and shapes forever. #gamedev #indiedev #solodev

Game dev is allowing yourself to not fit the mould vis a vis regular posts, dev logs, YouTube updates and not feeling guilty about that Your mileage may - and likely will - vary And that’s cool #gamedev #solodev #indiedev

This month in 🎮 game dev: Features aren’t always worth putting in a public devlog Been working on under-the-hood map gen stuff that nobody will care about and that’s fine. Skipped a dev log or two #gamedev #solodev #indiedev

Haven't been speaking much about game dev because I've been labouring over some functionality that's hard to talk about because I don't know how to go about it Finally got to the point where I understand how this guy's mind works #solodev #indiedev

I’m an unpublished, unproven and amateur game dev, but I’d suggest that giving yourself breaks and forgiving yourself when you get “stuck” is the route to producing a good, fun and decent game as an indie dev #gamedev #Godot #solodev

Been a little while since I posted here - wanted to take a little break from game dev last week to reset - but here's part 8 of my DevLog Got some even cooler stuff I've been working on coming down the pipeline #godot #gamedev #solodev #rpg

sammakescode.itch.ioCalyros DevLog #8 - Character actions, pathfinding and animationsSince the last update I’ve achieved a few more minor milestones towards “prettifying” the game, but also added some core functionality. I apologise for getting this update to you a week late, I...

In this devlog, I talk about adding trees, procedurally generated rocks, terrain and a day-night cycles into my game with some pretty pictures! I'm a solo dev creating a multiplayer RPG set in an Ancient Greek style world. Nice to get to do a bit of game art stuff done #gamedev #godot #indiedev

sammakescode.itch.ioCalyros DevLog #7 - Adding terrain, rocks, trees, day-night cycle and theme changesAnother week of productivity! In my previous post, I talked about networking and project restructuring. Those things are very important, but they’re not sexy . Adding a bunch of nice visuals is sexy.....

Capsule takes their first steps! Officially a toddler game 👶🎮 Nice piece of game programming! Client tells the server where it wants to go and server calculates the path finding. It's a bit jittery, definitely some work to do to smooth it out, but it's very cool :D #gamedev #godot #rpg #solodev

A question for all my #ADHD gamers out there - what good representations are there for ADHD in games? Leslie Knope always springs to mind when I think about characters in TV, just wondering about games?

(Game devs please share) Are there any game publishers on Bluesky? What do you look for when trying to find a new project to team up with? #gamedev #publishing #gamepub

Part 6 of the dev log for my multiplayer RPG game "Calyros" is now up! If you're seeing *me* for the first time, I'm a solo dev who decided to say "fuck it" to conventional wisdom and make a multiplayer RPG game set in a vaguely Ancient Greek world! Join me! #gamedev #godot #indiedev

blog.sammakescode.comCalyros DevLog #6 - Chatting, networking and project restructuring | SamMakesCode BlogI managed to have a nice relaxed Christmas and New Year. I didn't get as much time to work on my game as I'd hoped, but it was actually nice to put down the tools and enjoy being offline for a bit. It...

Added game lighting, procedural rocks, terrain shader and placeholder lollypop trees added, and suddenly it looks a bit like a game And yes, it's synced between game clients #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Rocks (and soon trees, plants, grass etc) in my game Calyros are all procedurally generated. Here are some examples! Still some work to do but what do you think? #indiedev #solodev #godot

I forgot to post it here the other day but... I thought it was time I finally introduced my game 🎮 I'm a solo dev working on a multiplayer RPG set in an original, Ancient Greek-inspired world. It's very early days, but if you want to come along for the ride, check out my dev log #gamedev #godot

blog.sammakescode.comMultiplayer RPG DevLog #5 - Introducing Calyros | SamMakesCode BlogIntroducing Calyros I've been talking at anyone who'll listen to me about my project for the last few months - first offline and then on BlueSky and here. Times have been exciting for me. Seeing as th...

🎮 Game developers of Bluesky, I have a question 🙋‍♂️ How do you grow the audience for your games? I’d like to start building a little community in the coming months, and just wondering how all you lovely folk have achieved that? For context, in a solo game developer. #gamedev #solodev #indiedev

🎮 Can Godot do multiplayer? Absolutely! Completing the basics of networking for my multiplayer RPG feels very good, even if it doesn't look like much yet Getting to work rolling in all the visuals I've created #gamedev #solodev #rpg #godot

Thinking of writing a post about how to do networking in Godot for those who are interested in writing multiplayer functionality for their game. Any takers? It’s not crazy complex and I’ve just finished it in my own game dev, so it’s still fresh in my mind #godot #gamedev #solodev 🎮

🎮 🎇 My game dev New Year’s resolution - especially as a solo dev - is to do project proper management. I love the puzzle solving aspect of game dev, so I get distracted from making the stuff that counts I’m gonna use the 80:20 rule to prioritise tasks #gamedev #solodev #indiedev

Merry christmas, all! If you’re an obsessive game dev like me, take this time to let new ideas stir, have a proper rest and spend time with your family. We can get back to neglecting them in January. Drink and make merry 🍺 🎅 #gamedev #solodev 🎮

Game devs of Bluesky! Just curious, what weird things have you found inspiring when making your games? I ask, because a walk I went on recently got me thinking about trees and how I might procedurally generate them #godot #gamedev #solodev

Do people wanna know how I made rivers in Godot for my next game dev update? It was kinda interesting to me, but I don’t wanna be dull. 🎮 #godot #gamedev #solodev

Ask and ye shall receive... Genuinely blown away by the response to this post. Feels really awesome to have people care about what I'm working on. The game dev community here is rad <3 Off to the pub now 🎮 #godot #gamedev #solodev #devlog

blog.sammakescode.comMultiplayer RPG DevLog #4 - Create rivers, with maths! (and shaders) | SamMakesCode BlogEmpowered by my recent success in creating terrain and applying textures to it that wasn't too shabby, I decided to move on to creating rivers. I had a rough idea of how I wanted this to work, but put...
