I just watched all of “Widow’s Bay” in a few sittings and it was amazing. I’m delighted to find that it won a whole slew of Emmys! MERMAZING TOP TO BOTTOM. I was especially pleased that Betty Gilpin won for her episode—she was amazing.

Wore this while running errands today and at Old Navy: Cashier: i love your shirt! Me: oh thank you! I wondered if people would get it! Cashier: oh sure, i love cats! Me, internally: (MONGO IS APPALLED)

No, YOU’RE showing your husband various episodes in random order because you love them and want to see them again OKAY FINE LET’S WATCH PATRICIA’S COCKTAIL PARTY AGAIN

Hello friends! Today I turn a glamorously youthful 48. In celebration, I want to share my latest genre of painting projects: family portraits! I use AI to create them, then send them off to become paint by number kits. My favorite style: seemingly normal with creepy background details.

I love having friends in different professions but then sometimes I get texts like “I’m at the [big veterinarians’ conference] and there are capybaras here”

I just relistened to a podcast episode about the presidential physical fitness test and MAN that brought back some emotional trauma. I can’t tell you how many years it was before I willingly went to a gym once I grew up.

I’m delighted to announce that I helped my high school freshman create a 3D model of a neuron using various foam etc. materials and managed to impress him with my crafting skills. I will be riding this high for weeks

Also a delight: the science fair, mandatory in my day, is now optional, which I believe is a big part of why my kids both still enjoy science. “Hey ADHD reading nerd, come up with an original hypothesis & test it all on your own time to present & be judged on vague parameters”=perfect ulcer-making

Grades K-8 administrators: Only people on the approved list who show valid ID and solve three riddles can pick your child up at carpool. High school administrators: Bell rang, gtfo the building and find a ride somewhere

Our entire household schedule has shifted one hour earlier thanks to the kids’ moving up to new schools and we are not handling it well. Lotta morning crankiness and afternoon couch naps. Also I find myself far more susceptible to “I want a little treat” thoughts

A new word I just learned: “bio-similar,” which is not a clone but in fact a medicine that’s basically a generic version of a biologic. I learned it bc my insurance company is forcing me to switch from the injectable biologic that has worked reliably for years. Imma use it to mean clone tho

Yesterday I finished book number 100 of the year! It was Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia, the second of hers I’ve read, and it was a treat. I would like to thank the authors of the Murderbot, Dungeon Crawler Carl, and Lady Hardcastle series for their delightfully addictive books.

Side note: I have zero idea how to code, so I used a site that does “vibe coding”: you tell it what you want, and it executes. It’s frankly amazing, except I forget that the AI is completely non-intuitive—that is, I have to tell it to do things that are simply logical. I therefore call it Kronk.

Hi all! I spent the summer creating an app to let my students practice legal citation and am now trying to get it uploaded to various platforms. Google Play requires me to get 12 people to test it for 14 days. If you have an Android and would be willing to check it out, would you let me know?

The NUMBER OF TIMES this summer that I would type like “the questions page should display them in reverse chronological order” or “check for duplicate question numbers” and it would say “done!” and I would go look and it was still wrong and I would say out loud DAMMIT KRONK

I have just tried thrice to get Kronk to fix a simple formatting error and each time he says “it’s fixed!” and it just absolutely is not and suddenly this flashed to mind

(1) I am so grateful to everyone!! (2) I am still fighting with both app platforms and friends I am never making another app

Latest discovery: this morning, when I went to pull the crockpot out of a kitchen cabinet (see attached exhibit A). This type of actual pain-in-the-ass clean-up prank is very unlike 14yo’s MO. Investigators are baffled. fin/

First discovery: 12yo’s shoe. Probably two handfuls’ worth. Second discovery: 14yo’s shoe. Like three little dry nuggets. These would seem to implicate 14yo, who is (a) 14 and (b) an older brother. He denies the charges. 2/

If you were wondering what it’s like to upload an app to these platforms I would describe it as “frankly horrific” and “absolutely maddening”

Me a month ago: Man, Goodreads keeps insisting I’d love the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. Guess I’ll listen to the first one. Me this week: This eighth one in the series is the last one out so I have to ration it out

I have started listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and am entirely addicted. I will now forever shout GODDAMMIT DONUT in my head when I get frustrated 😂

We just binged the Duffer brothers’ new series “The Boroughs” in two sittings, and it was amazing. We were terrified, we laughed, we cried, we fell in love with Denis O’Hare, it was everything we wanted ♥️

Halfway through the drive to and from the vet my car decides that Biscuit—twelve-pound Biscuit—is a passenger who needs a seatbelt. Then it dings at me for the rest of the drive and I get increasingly homicidal

I commented on a big bin of (unfrozen) freezer pops at Publix and the pharmacist said “yeah, I saw a kid jump into it once” I’m SHOCKED that younger me never had that intrusive thought 😂😂😂

Friends, I’m at a baseball game with my beloved Dad today, and he loaned me one of his dozens (maybe hundreds) of minor league hats: a special event version of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers’ udder-tuggers mascot. The shirt is the Dash’s alternate Tobacco Bug guy. Minor league baseball is the BEST

Friends, if you were a pre-teen in the '90s like myself, please know that pre-teens (like my kid) are still being assigned to read "The Westing Game." I only vaguely remember the book but the title smacked me right in the nostalgia.
