Red Queen's Rocketship takeoff "exceeds expectations" staff engineer threshold

the floor for a swe in q4 2026 is that you must deliver staff+ impact. it really feels like weโ€™re moving to a world where the only people who formally have the title โ€œsweโ€ will have $1m+ TC but simultaneously all other jobs will have a swe component

The macOS built-in curl, git, pip, python3, perl, ruby, and openssl all read /etc/ssl/cert.pem, which still has the emSign root, but they don't check revocation like Apple's Secure Transport libraries. This is, uh, a problem. git and pip especially. I added a short-term workaround to this page.

๐Ÿšจ Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.

all atproto server-side apps/services: you are affected. - pds: service proxying is outbound tls requests - firehose consumers: tls to relays/jetstream - relays etc: tls to pdses, plc - identity resolution: tls to plc and did:web hosts - etc if you only ship code to the browser, you are ok.

geoff gives good advice. stop following the latest model and harness churn, it's been a Lot lately with people yelling "have you used picopiodexharness" and "have you use fablopustra" and the reality is you don't need to be at the bleeding edge.

This Wednesday I wrap up my Observability Engineering Masterclass series by live-instrumenting four domains that go far beyond incident debugging: a CI pipeline, a frontend, sluggish code in production, and LLM calls.

You are up to date.
