This came up as a news segment on the tv in a store I was in today- and people all stopped to watch. one person said: they can’t just shut down the whole museum like that!

Today’s hearing was incredible. While I am disappointed to report that no one from the mayor’s office, attended, city council absolutely grilled the Drexel University representative. It exceeded every expectation. Another hearing is scheduled for Nov 16th. Get your popcorn ready.

On Tues Oct 27th, Philly will have gone a full month without access to the Academy of Natural Sciences. Join us at academy at 6pm for a candlelight vigil. We’re keeping the light of hope alive. Wear black if you have it. We’re the dark times, but this fight isn’t over.

1) This rules 2) Your dad annoying you so profoundly that you drew 478 fish is the most relatable thing I have ever seen.

HulloThere@jethroreading32.bsky.social

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

(and before one of you jabronis tells me that pumpkins are not an effective organizing strategy, please remember 1) Doing fun things is good for keeping up momentum 2) Sometimes people need a little excuse to make a post, and a dino pumpkin is a solid excuse)

A few ppl have dropped and we have slots open for this free, virtual coaching series starting tomorrow! We want to support faculty/staff/etc doing #SciComm research, teaching, and enabling in higher ed. Our series is NSF-funded as part of a larger study: how can we nudge academic culture?

I'm packing advent calendars this afternoon, so it's a great day to pick one up at SquidFacts.net! We've got this year's snails, last year's eels, and frogs and crabs all in stock!

Sarah McAnulty, Ph.D.@sarahmackattack.bsky.social

A limited number of crab and frog facts advent calendars are now available at SquidFacts.net! These need to be made by hand, so we’ve been phasing them out but I was very lucky to have some help this week making some more in the lead up to December. Get ‘em while they’re here! SquidFacts.net

Oh hey. It’s October now. Did you get an advent calendar that educates you about snails while helping us educate people in Philly about our local biodiversity? Not yet?? Well what are you waiting for? It’s time for snail facts! SquidFacts.net

Every time I see this skeleton I laugh out loud because she’s always in a new position. Yesterday she looked like she was saying “dish, girl” and today she’s all “nahhh none for me thanks I gotta drive”. How does my neighbor decide what pose to do???

Cleaning up a lot for a future garden today, and on the run to the dump every man there came over to ask about the squidmobile. I know the sciencemobile approach is a weird one, and isn’t for everybody, but it’s a sure fire way to get people talking, I tell you what.

At some point in September I start glaring at the asters and think they are literally never going to bloom, this has all been a waste of time, and then all of a sudden it’s mid October and bam. There they go.
