I have to say that trying to write a talk about the current state of security is damn tricky with the amount / speed of things happening these past few weeks!

Well, it's been a hot minute since I've been overseas (4 whole months!) but I'm on my way to New Zealand for @kawaiicon.bsky.social next week and then onwards to Switzerland for @ExpertsliveCH ! Come say hi! I have stickers and Tim Tams. #ExpertsLiveCH

What I'm finding very comforting about the PHPocalypse is that a lot of places proactively took down their websites to fix this rather than waiting for bad things to happen. I don't think this happened on such a wide scale before...?

Very excited to be back in Switzerland in a few weeks' time with some other amazing speakers! Experts Live is always such a great conference, I'm excited to attend the Swiss edition! #ExpertsLiveCH

I won’t officially be at AISA #CyberCon this year, but I am in Melbourne when it’s taking place for the first time in years, so if anyone wants to grab coffee/cake/lunch/dinner, let me know! Bonus: you can have pets with these two!

Applying for Australian citizenship today. "Please list every country you've visited in the last 10 years with dates." Welp. See you in a few days' time.

YES I GOT TICKETS TO THE ZELDA CONCERT IN MELBOURNE NEXT YEAR! Had to sit in an online queue for over an hour. Unemployment is useful for something, I guess.

This is not to say that there is not a lot of bad about this story but for me the lack of detection is the most concerning

Question: Is it unethical to buy a discounted student ticket to an event if you also work full time? (Even if you are studying in some capacity too and have a student ID) personally, I think it is but curious on others’ thoughts.

This week my achievements include: - Watching S2 of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders - Eating lots of banana caramel peanut butter from a jar - Re-arranging stuff in my kitchen - Going to the gym most days Life is good

Someone on IG made a mini MAGI computer from Evangelion mockup with different models debating each other and I realised that this is the OG agentic harness.

Well, this is me signing off from Microsoft. I have worked here for 7.5 years and although I have had weeks to prepare for this, I will confess I am not OK today. But I will be OK (this isn't a cry for help) as I have a lot of good people around me. See you all in the next adventure.

I got an email this weekend from a lovely gentleman who wanted to tell me that if you lose connectivity on Teams, it shows a picture of a Shibe! More of these random awesome messages, please.

A few folks have asked but no, I won’t be at BHUSA/DEFCON next week. I am applying to be an Australian citizen later this year and need to stay onshore the next couple of months. I’m sure I’ll be back next year: have fun y’all!

A few weeks ago, I too was informed that my Microsoft role had been made redundant for the second time in 14 months. Grateful for the friendship and opportunities that have been afforded to me whilst I have been here.

Sadly, I won’t be at hacker summer camp in a few weeks’ time to mingle and see what opportunities are out there because I need to stay in Australia for my citizenship application this year.

I know it is traditional to take a picture of your laptop and badge but as there have been too many of those in the past few weeks so please enjoy one of my dogs in a sprint competition and a few highlights from my time here because it is much cuter for your feed.

- Created and presented technical security demos for Microsoft senior leadership at keynotes - Led the open sourcing of our AI Red Team labs and training material - Co-hosted MS Ignite three times - Presented (earned) sessions at Blackhat, Bluehat and other industry events

- Deployed some of the biggest Microsoft Sentinel customers globally - Facilitated and taught Azure security workshops all over the world to our customers - Co-hosted the amazing Azure Security Podcast with a rather large listenership (amazing when you think how niche we are!)

I know I’ve made many friendships for life and got to contribute to projects and initiatives and products and events I never imagined possible.

So what’s next? Well, I’ll be taking some time to rest up and see what’s out there that sparks joy whether inside or outside of Microsoft. Things I have done whilst at MS that I’m particularly proud of:

I became a stereotype and did a Hyrox race yesterday. I finished and I think my time was respectable for a first timer but jeeeez my body ACHES.

Timeline cleanser for Monday: at the weekend my dogs took part in a sprint competition. Mina is pure joy chasing a plastic bag on a wire.

Super pumped for Build tomorrow: we have some awesome things to show you! Tune in at 10am PT tomorrow for the keynote from Satya, you can livestream here build.microsoft.com. And for my antipodean crew, it'll be recorded so you can watch when you get up.

Today someone called Grayson a "chicken nugget in a jumper". Well, he's old which is why he has a jumper because he gets cold in the winter, also it's a cute charity jumper from Bunnings (Australia's Home Depot). Also, don't diss my dog.

In a plot twist I wasn't expecting, I will be at #MicrosoftBuild in a few weeks' time! Only on Tuesday 2nd June, come say hi if you're attending!

Really need all the security conferences to come to Australia this year as I have to stay in Australia for my impending citizenship application :/

My author copies of the second edition of the SC-200 Exam Ref which I wrote with @yuridiogenes turned up this week. Can't believe I wrote the 1st version of this ~5 years ago stuck in lockdown in NZ! If you're using Sentinel and Defender you should read, up to date with the new unified portal etc.

I went down a weird YouTube hole in the lounge in HK and discovered that the original Power Rangers have made guest appearances in the series recently and they look old so I feel OLD.
