Well, this is a fun little experiment I did with Basil today. I wanted to see if I can have a "light source" that can change the shadow based on the gyro. In the video I just added a light source to drag it around to better show it. Would I ever release it, probably not πŸ˜‚

Added a stippled grain texture to the shadows too because why have clean shadows when you can make them look like a retro comic print? 🎨

Meet Basil 🌿 Because every good Pomodoro needs a little Basil. ⚑️ Neo-Brutalist design 🚫 App blocking 🎡 Immersive soundscapes 🎨 Bold, custom themes It was fun building this project. Thanks to @edpratti for helping me out with design! πŸ’š Link πŸ‘‡

Twine 3.0 is finally out, shipping tons of new features like improved feed & podcast support, a new Discovery section and an improved user interface. @edpratti and I can’t wait to hear what you think!

This release also comes with custom themes and more customization options around color and modes. You can keep Twine dynamic or stick to your favorite palette.

This release comes with more layout options than ever, enabling you to tweak Twine to your liking, whether you want big images or dense list views.

Umm, I got a bit carried away building new stuff for Twine. Here is one more new feature, themes in the reader screen. App now offers 7 themes for the reader screen - Dynamic (match hero image palette) - Sepia - Solarized - Parchment - Midnight - Forest - Slate

✨New Twine feature✨ Not sure which feeds to follow? Twine now has a discovery section you can browse to get started. It will be shown during onboarding, when adding a feed, and in the main navigation if you just want to browse what's available.

New Twine update v2.11.0 rolling out now to Android & iOS ✨ Made some UI changes to improve user experience, and bunch of new features and customisations, along with bunch of bug fixes. If you haven't already, give it a try!

It's amazing how much AI agents for Android dev has improved. Used Junie and Gemini 3 to build an app I need, and it build the entire app in few hours and required minimal amount of manual changes. Used @stitchbygoogle to generate initial designs to iterate on.

It had no trouble adding @Firebase Firestore integration, end-to-end encryption, multi-user support, alarms, timers in notifications, and working with Material 3 components. For now it's a basic setup with @jetbrains Junie CLI and @AndroidStudio

And I am not open-sourcing the project or publishing to Google Play, it's just more work I have to do. It's a personal project that's just build around our needs. Oh yeah, I am a dad now btw 😁

Here are some new changes coming to Twine over the weekend. - Compact bottom bar - New filter and sort options sheet - Navigation drawer for switching screens - Navigation rail for foldable and tablet layouts. - Local new articles notifications - Download full article on sync

Time to wrap up the year with a new Twine update. ✨v2.10.0✨ - New amoled theme - Setting to block images in posts list and reader - Change default font to RethinkSans - UI tweaks in home screen and feeds sheet - Hide app bar and bottom bar on scroll in home screen...

- Parsing improvements to the reader screen - Improved performance of "mark as read" functionality Thank you for supporting development of Twine over the last year. I have a lot more exciting updates planned for next year πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

My talk: The Busy Android Developers Guide to Perfetto is now up on YouTube ! Root-causing problems is a lot of fun. Once you start you can't stop 😜 Happy Tracing !!

Perfetto performance traces can be very intimidating. A talk by perf wizard @rahulrav.com makes it a tiny bit less scary. youtu.be/WJHNBN_19F8?... #performance #android

Playing around with custom shapes and shadows in Jetpack Compose. Nothing fancy, but it's kinda fun and interesting.

Back at it again! New Twine update rolling out now ✨v2.9.0✨ - Improved featured section and color extraction - Support XKCD comics - New font for featured and reader title - Support media groups and thumbnails - Dynamic color caching - Improved reader content parsing

It was such a fun day at Droidcon London yesterday. Meet a lot of amazing people and interesting conversations. I haven't taken any photos though yesterday, hopefully I will remember to take a few photos today πŸ˜…

Back home for few days, I can finally work on Twine again over the weekend. Want to explore using Navigation 3 and improve large screen support for the app πŸ‘€

✨ New Twine update rolling out ✨ In case you're wondering what the perf changes are, it's handling unnecessary recompositions because of dynamic theming I had implemented πŸ˜…

@sebastiano.dev it looks like LookAheadScope and animateBounds is enough to animate the LazyVerticalGrid cell changes. Obviously the transition isn’t perfect but I think adjusting animation timings and playing around with fade spec for other items should improve it.
