Here’s the big question? Could Brexit simply be reversed?

Andrew Hesselden@andrewhesselden.bsky.social

1. 🧵 THREAD: Could Brexit be undone by proving that Britain never followed a constitutionally valid process for leaving the EU? There is a fascinating legal question at the heart of Brexit that deserves much more scrutiny.

Fed up of counting days? There are certainly ways that politicians could solve this problem quickly… A thread 🧵

1. 🧵 THREAD: Could Britain solve the 90-in-180-day problem sooner than it can rejoin the EU? New Zealand, Canada and the USA have arrangements with individual countries in the Schengen zone that can allow longer stays. Why shouldn't British people benefit too?

Thread on solving the 90-in-180 day problem 🧵 The solutions to the 90-in-180 day problem are many and varied. Politicians really have **no** excuse for inaction. Any of the following provide models for solutions or are solutions in themselves…

I don’t fear the euro. And I run @savefom.bsky.social so I certainly don’t fear Freedom of Movement either. But I want to rejoin the EU as rapidly as possible in a way that is as acceptable as possible to the most number of people so that it lasts.

You only have to look at the number of people who suddenly found me after 2016, many of whom voted Brexit to realise a lot of Brits do see the positive case for at least having their FOM And now with the disastrous EES rollout highlighting their status as nonEuropeans Time to @savefom.bsky.social

Who's ridiculous idea is this? Freedom of Movement is a good thing in its own right. EU laws? Why not? Just join the Single Market, if they will let us.

Any politician who doesn't think freedom of movement is worth fighting for ought to be given a job that involves crossing the Schengen border with a UK passport every day and see how it fucking feels. The ninety-first day would be particularly interesting.

"Non-EU member states which adhere to EU rules on freedom of movement also enjoy the same mutual recognition of professional qualifications. The same mutual recognition was rejected for the UK during the Brexit negotiations because the UK did not want to be in the EU single market."

regarding employment, pay, and social benefits. But no one ever considers the fact that we actually already have Freedom of Movement within the UK! All we're doing by not being part of the EU is denying ourselves, our families, our friends the opportunities that Freedom of Movement presents!

Freedom of Movement allows EU citizens and their family members to live, work, study, and travel across any EU member state, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, without needing a visa or work permit. It guarantees equal treatment to local citizens

What we already have versus what we're scared of: Freedom of Movement allows UK citizens and their family members to live, work, study, and travel across the UK without restriction! It guarantees equal treatment whether you're English, Scots, Welsh or Irish wherever you are!

We don’t think number 1 or 5 are true

Few facts: 1. Britain has voted for Brexit, main reason: not liking Europeans 2. Britain has triggered art 50 unprepared 3. Britain rejected extension for 2 years of the transition period 4. Britain wasted money on inefficient ad campaign 5. Britain doesn’t want freedom of movement

Someone in Labour needs to be clear. Freedom of movement was always a good thing. The objections to it were always both false and xenophobic.

Whatever happens also needs to be good for Britain as well as other EU members. It can’t only be Niall’s “my way or the highway”. We need to restore mutual Freedom of Movement

Are you an EU Citizen living in the UK, who has been told by the Home Office that your settled status has been revoked? We urge UK gov to rethink and take a more generous and lenient approach. Join our campaign to restore mutual Freedom of Movement between UK and EU, EEA & Switzerland.

I think it’s time to be a lot more direct and blunt about the 90-in-180-day problem and the problems post Brexit with EES and people mobility in Europe. It really is time for change, and I’m so pleased that the British parliament is starting to look at this now. We are starting to be heard ♥️ 🇬🇧 🇪🇺

People should complain about the 90-in-180-day problem. As loudly as possible! 💥 📣 This is how we make the case for better people mobility. Without people getting enthusiastic about international mobility again, it will not be possible to rejoin the single Market or EU. It’s a vital part of it.
