Not much point appointing a new manager ahead of Chelsea (A), Roma (H), Aston Villa (H) and Liverpool (A). Let Carrick take the fall and then begin the rebuild ahead of January.

My guess: because it allowed an entire generation to quantify the debate between Messi and Ronaldo. It isn’t all that useful when there are 5/6 players vying for “best in the world” but becomes vital in a two-horse race between two players that have already won everything.

I get why footballers care about the Ballon d’Or. What I don’t get is why anyone else over the age of 12 cares who wins it. Grown adults passionately arguing over which millionaire deserves a golden ball. A genuinely baffling annual ritual.

Me trying to uncouple myself from Musk's fascist social media platform, only to realise that my AI of choice - which I thought was the more ethical option over ChatGPT/Grok/etc. - is paying SpaceX $3.1b a month for compute power...

Another trophy for Harry Kane to add to his growing list of achievements at Bayern. And to think some were genuinely puzzled as to why he’d move to Germany over chasing down Alan Shearer’s Premier League record…

I'd quite like a Ballon d'Or, but for a group of individuals who achieved more than any other group. Maybe we can evaluate different groups by playing them against one another and keeping score. Three points for a win. One point for a draw. And to make things fair, get them to play home and away.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Man Utd's total points tally in the Premier League is closer to Everton's (201 points difference) than it is to Man City's (248). They're also closer to Tottenham (26 points) than Liverpool (153 points) or Chelsea (33).

Odd performance from Bayern tonight. Pulled ahead in the first half and looked like they’d thump Freiburg, but didn’t kick on in the second half. Hosts pulled one back and caused havoc in the last 15. All a little shaky. Which, considering the absences, is understandable.

Dortmund are boring as hell. They’re predictable. They don’t create too many chances. But, under Kovac, you always expect them to grab a later goal. And I can’t remember the last Dortmund manager that achieved that.

Absolutely superb goal from Maxi Beier to break the deadlock between Dortmund and Frankfurt. The German wide forward combined with fellow sub Jobe Bellingham to put Dortmund in front.

Stuttgart have just thrown away a one-goal lead against the worst team in the Bundesliga…

Stuttgart are in a bit of a pickle. They’ve not sold any star players. They’ve got more depth than Dortmund or Leipzig. And yet… they’re still shit. gegenpressingpodcast.com/p/swabian-st...

I'd love to know the logic behind Man Utd (reportedly) lining up Julian Nagelsmann to replace Michael Carrick. "Sure, he failed with Germany. And, yes, he looked well out of his depth at Bayern. However... "

A draw seems like a fair result. Bayern and Arsenal both tussled for control over the game. Made for a good contest. Davies was super in attack. Bischof great in midfield. Kane world class. Not so sure about Stanisic at left-back or, perhaps, Neuer in goals.

Some bold tactical moves from Vincent Kompany tonight. Stanisic comes at left back, Davies in front of him on the left wing. Gnabry and Saibari behind Kane. Feels very defensive. Let’s see if it works.

Fascinating clash between two opposing sets up in the Como vs Man Utd match. Essentially a nippy start up tech firm against an old, legacy department store that no one but your old aunt still shops in…

Truly superb first half from Stuttgart. Harassed Atletico in their own half for 45 minutes and bagged a deserved lead through Lewelling shot on the edge of the box. More of that in the second half please.
