Donald Trump promised to bring down costs. Instead, the average household in Illinois’ 9th District is paying more than $5,300 extra for everyday goods and services.   His reckless tariffs and illegal war in Iran are driving up costs while families are left footing the bill.

Thanks to warnings from the House Sergeant at Arms, my team quickly identified the suspicious piece of mail and did not open it. We’re grateful to the Skokie Police Department and U.S. Capitol Police for their swift response and assistance.

Illinois is home to people of many faiths and backgrounds. That diversity makes our communities stronger, and everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome. I'm disgusted by this attempted attack and stand firmly with our Hindu neighbors. Hate has no home here.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi@congressmanraja.bsky.social

My family and I were worshipping at our Hindu temple in Aurora on Sunday when a white supremacist attempted a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans. I'm grateful to those who prevented a tragedy, but we must all come together to confront the hatred that put so many innocent lives at risk.

The Trump Administration’s decision to delay this rule is welcome news, but it’s only a temporary fix. I’ve heard from constituents who are scared of losing access to affordable, lifesaving medications from Canada. @pocan.house.gov and I will keep fighting to make sure these options are available.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Women with dense breasts can be up to 4-5 times more likely to develop breast cancer than women without dense breasts. Dense breast tissue can also make cancer harder to detect on a mammogram.

As someone with dense breasts myself, I know how important it is for women to have access to the screening they need. I’ve spent years fighting to expand access to additional testing because every woman deserves the information and care she needs to protect her health.

Our nation’s story can’t be told without recognizing the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we celebrate Native communities and the rich traditions they continue to carry forward.

As The Social Reckoning, a film about Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, hits theaters, I’ve teamed up with @trahan.house.gov and Congressman Tom Kean Jr. on bipartisan legislation to protect FTC whistleblowers who expose wrongdoing. No one should face retaliation for speaking out.

My heart aches for all those killed on October 7 and the loved ones they left behind. I think of the hostages and their families who endured unimaginable suffering. I also mourn the innocent Palestinians who have lost loved ones, homes, and communities throughout this devastating war.

Three years later, the human cost remains staggering. We must honor those we have lost by working toward lasting peace, justice, and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

Americans already pay far too much for prescription drugs. Now, Trump is making it harder for people to access lower-cost medicines from Canada and other countries. I’ve heard from many constituents who are deeply concerned about what this could mean for their ability to afford their medications.

For 50 years, the Hyde Amendment has denied low-income women the freedom to access abortion care simply because they can't afford it. The Hyde Amendment is discriminatory, period. No one should be denied the care they need because of their income. Health care is a human right. We must repeal Hyde.

Thousands of immigrants in Illinois who are here legally will lose their Medicaid coverage tomorrow because of Trump. That includes thousands of Ukrainians who fled Putin’s war and came to Illinois seeking safety. The cruelty is the point. We must speak up, stand together, and fight back.

Abortion is health care, period. For over 50 years, the harmful Helms Amendment has blocked U.S. foreign assistance from supporting abortion care, even where it is legal. Today, on International Safe Abortion Day, we’re fighting to repeal Helms and make reproductive health care accessible to all.

It’s always good to see my good friend @petermorley.bsky.social! Peter is a tireless advocate for patients and for making sure everyone can get the health care they need. I’m grateful for his friendship and for all he continues to do to make our health system work better for patients and families.

Taxpayer dollars should create good jobs and strengthen communities, not reward corporations that cut corners at the expense of working people. @repcasar.bsky.social and I just introduced legislation to ensure federal contracts go to companies that respect workers and invest in their communities.

I've heard directly from constituents who have shared how this could affect their ability to afford the lifesaving medications they depend on. We should be making prescription drugs more affordable, not putting lower-cost options out of reach.

As we welcome the Jewish New Year, I’m wishing everyone celebrating a happy, healthy, and peaceful Rosh Hashanah. From my family to yours, may the year ahead be filled with joy, love, and blessings. Shanah Tovah!

Twenty-five years ago, I watched in disbelief with the rest of the nation as two planes struck the Twin Towers & our nation came under attack. Later, from my office, I watched smoke rise from the Pentagon. I remember the fear & chaos of that day, but also the extraordinary courage that followed.

Let's honor the thousands of lives we lost that horrific day, & all those we've since lost to 9/11-related injuries & illnesses. We may come from different backgrounds, but we all call this country home. Twenty-five years later, let's remember that unity is what carries us through our darkest days.

This morning, I joined State Rep. Robyn Gabel, former Evanston Mayor Steve Hagerty, & community members at Firefighters Park to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 & the first responders who continue to serve our communities today.

I remember standing on the Capitol steps with my colleagues singing “God Bless America.” I remember learning about the heroes on Flight 93. I remember our Solidarity March down Devon Ave., where we walked arm in arm, carrying American flags & declaring that we would not let this tragedy divide us.

Costs are sky high, and Trump and Republicans have made them worse. Families are feeling it every time they fill up their tank, buy groceries, or pay a health care bill. Democrats are focused on bringing those costs down. Republicans have no real plan to make life more affordable.

Trump and RFK Jr. are cutting grants that help prevent infant deaths, support mothers after childbirth, and reduce health disparities in minority communities. This is not making America healthy. It is putting lives at risk. They must be held accountable.

I’ve spent my career fighting alongside working people, and I know we are strongest when we stand together. That’s why I’m a dues-paying union member and why I’ll always stand with the labor movement. Labor built the middle class.

The government should never collect Americans’ private medical records without their knowledge or consent. I’m calling on the CPSC to immediately halt its sweeping collection of personally identifiable ER patient data. Consumer safety should never come at the expense of Americans’ privacy.

Senator Ed Markey@markey.senate.gov

The Trump administration has repeatedly sought Americans’ private data. Now CPSC wants names, addresses, birthdates, diagnoses, and other sensitive information from emergency room patients. CPSC must immediately halt this sweeping and invasive data collection.

I’m deeply saddened to hear about Gloria Steinem’s passing. Gloria was a giant in the fight for women’s equality, and her courage was an inspiration to generations of women, including me. I was fortunate to work alongside Gloria in this movement. We stand on her shoulders, and we must persist.

Imagine losing your family home after a loved one dies because Medicaid demands repayment for the care they needed.    Medicaid estate recovery is cruel and largely hidden from public view. Families deserve better than to have a lifetime of hard-earned wealth wiped away after a loved one’s death.

marketwatch.comYes, the government can take your home after a Medicaid recipient dies. Here’s how to protect yourself. If you don’t defend against Medicaid estate recovery, states are required to go looking for reimbursement, and real estate is often the only asset left.
