Walter Koenig’s most memorable role was of course Chekov on Star Trek but my favorite work of his was the psi-cop Bester in Babylon 5. He brought so much to this terrifying-yet-complex character. A life well lived. Thanks for the joy you brought to so many lives, Mr Koenig.

(You wanna know a real fun, easy way to develop critical thinking skills? Go engage with art and then talk to other people about it. In person, not just online! Then read stuff other people have written about that art. Rinse, repeat.)

Lifted some of the masking fluid and began desaturating the shadows with some sepia. Starting to look like something!

Blocking in her face a bit more with burnt sienna and light red. It’s a bit of an optical illusion with watercolors that something will look too dark but only until even darker tones are added. You’ll see that happen as this progresses.

Another must-see in Florence is the Piazza della Signoria and its public collection of statues. I never quite ‘got’ sculpture until seeing them for the first time a couple years ago. It was like the clouds parted and I heard the choir.

The primer coat for my first-ever Maya World painting. This step is a general blocking-in of colors as a sort of roadmap for what’s to come.

Scenes from the Boboli Garden. What an absolutely stunning experience, walking through this living work of art. Taking notes for my own garden, of course!

LAST CALL! Will offer this drawing through the end of October then pull it down for a while. JSA MEGA CAST PIECE! Like the Stray Bullets and New Gods pieces. NOT A PRINT! Hand drawn by me. Email: ElcapitanB@aol.com for info.

Another stunner at the Galleria dell'Accademia is the hall of plaster casts and busts. Actually made me stop in my tracks walking in. These were essentially the artists’ studies before actually sculpting, so you can see reference dots all over them to guide the sculpture process.

I owe so much to Steve Lightle’s Classic X-Men covers. Issue 30 was the first comic I bought and a little later I learned he was a fellow Kansas Citian. It made me know I could also have a career in the arts. Glad I was able to thank him several times.

Beside the Statue of David, the Galleria dell'Accademia has several of Michaelangelo’s unfinished works. It provides an unparalleled insight into his process, from carving to sanding. You can see his philosophy that the statue existed inside each block of marble and he simply needed to free it.

Our guide asked what we know about Michaelangelo and I immediately blurted out, “I heard he’s a real party dude.”

Went to see the Statue of David today. Here’s a picture of his taint.

A brief connection in Amsterdam means I can take out my travel set and say I’ve painted in Amsterdam!

As a survivor, as a person with empathy , as a human being: Fuck this administration. Fuck the people who voted for them. Fuck the people who continue to support them.

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"
