Thought: congress should be the branch of government that collects data about the country. Give them the census bureau and all the parts of the executive that collect and store data about the country. So then the executive has to ask for the data it needs to do it's job.

So have cops and prosecutors under the executive. Neutral courts and groups making sure the executive follows the law under justice. Data collection, preservation, rationalizing, and sharing under the legislative, which writes the laws for the other two. Rebalance to get checks and balances back.

Oh, and budgets continue until they are superseded. None of this 'has to pass every single year' because if it's not broke, don't fix it. And that gives you time and attention back to fix what's actually broken. It lets the theater of politics and the horse race not force disruption on all of us.

If it's parks and rec asking, no problem, right? But if it's cops, why are they asking? Ongoing investigation? Cool let's get a number attached to the investigation and a record of what's been asked for under that rationale. So Congress holds data, and the president holds execution. And Justice?

Justice holds the courts, the investigators general, internal affairs of all stripes. Not criminal prosecutors. The supreme court is serving as a check on the legislative branch, more than the executive. But the Constitution was written with the understanding that the legislative is the sovereign.

So Congress gets to know best when it makes the laws, and we get to rationalize how the government stores and tracks stuff like who is in trouble and needs help, who owns what, how do areas compare to eachother, etc. And the executive runs an API that can ask blind, recorded questions.

The 'blind' is important. Executive doesn't get to know what data is gathered or forecasting scenarios are done. It just gets the law, an API, and has to figure out what data it can use to execute the law and ask for it. "How many people moved along this path in this period?"

So we get an auditable record of what each part of the executive is looking at, protection from secret police and fishing expeditions. Congress gets a lever that can immediately stop things it does not condone, not rely on court process. And any executive databases become a prosecutable offense.

Watched a few episodes of 'The Frontier Lord Starts with Zero Subjects' and realized that while it's a trash isekai, it's also a great example of cryptofacist world building designed to make the main character a good guy by having the objectively awful choices he makes be the best ones on offer

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

what was it, "the relationship between cyberpunk and communism is much like the relationship between cross-dressing stories and gender transition: it's the logical solution to the primary conflict of the narrative but the author doesn't engage with it, or it is only engaged with to be mocked"
