Started watching Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai+) and this was a mistake because I don’t want to stop!! The characters, action and story (so far) are all fantastic. But it’s by the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, so that’s not a surprise. (+No idea why the EN/JP titles are so different)

Still feeling cruddy with a fuzzy head most of the day, but I think I managed to start to get this Fic chapter finally headed in the right direction. (By going back to what my original plan was, of course.) #amWriting

I love this twist on an old callback so much!

When a nobleman came in to the tavern and put a note on the board, the monster hunters went to check it out. Laughter erupted. "A gazebo? Quick, someone get Eric!" Then the bounty caught their attention. "That's a lot of gold. Why?" "This gazebo," the nobleman said, "was made by Baba Yaga."

It’s been a long week, a stressful day, and I took two shots to the arm after work. I am so tired right now, plus it’s a regular work day tomorrow. I . . .don’t think I’m doing any writing tonight. *thud*

Posting again: I have a 500 word horror story I would like to publish. Since neither the length nor genre are my usual ones I am looking for advice on where to submit for publishing. I have a list from The Submission Grinder, but I would love input on preferences or other anthologies!

It’s been a long weekend. A good one, but long. My cousin stayed with us for a visit. We went to Ghostport yesterday which included a costume parade, launching pumpkins with a trebuchet, a spooky story contest and a kid-run haunted house. (And then my furnace acted up, so evening stuff got skipped.)

I did well in the spooky story contest, although not many people attended nor entered. There were 4 entries. One was an 8 year-old who told her story from memory (I don’t think it was original) — who won for obvious reasons. I won second place, and my husband and cousin really liked the story.

Unfortunately my mom missed the event, because she discovered our furnace was pouring out black smoke just as she was headed down to the event. (Furnace was okay when we left). We managed to get things working much better so things are safe now (but I will call our regular furnace guy tomorrow).

Seriously, WTF. It may be time to delete my FB account at last. And that’s unfortunately where our town and a lot of local businesses tend to post info. 😩🤬

you can't be serious. This reads Meta/Facebook/Insta is looking to grant itself the rights to scrape websites across the open web - and train Meta's AI - if a company after Oct 30, 2026 uses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or other Meta services. So every biz. Read that again. Outrageous. 1/5

Finished writing a flash fiction story (500 words) for a spooky story contest as part of this weekend’s town Halloween celebration. It’s a read-aloud contest, judged by the audience’s reactions. Do I expect to win? Not really. But I do like the piece, so let’s see what people think. #amWriting

At this point, I’m halfway tempted to throw out half this Fic chapter (including some scenes I really like 😭) and take things into an entirely different direction, because I’m no longer sure the story actually needs most of what I have been trying to figure out how to write. Bah. #amWriting

Today was supposed to be a Writing Day but brain fog hit me hard before noon, so movie day with C instead. We watched Van Helsing - I had forgotten just how campy/tongue in cheek that movie is (and sheer number of Universal Monsters in it). Still a fun movie, though. (Now watching: Sleepy Hollow.)

Went apple picking with my mom today, and got to meet and visit with the owners of the orchard and a bunch of their family. (My mom has known the owner her entire life…and he likes her, so he told us where the best trees are.)

Our little town theater is playing Coyote vs. Acme so we went to go see it last night. (An actual movie on “movie night” with Mum!). It’s great, I absolutely loved it. And I love the irony *this movie* was shelved b/c corpo greed and revived by another co due to public outcry(+ mentioned in credits)

Watching more Kaiju No.8. The second season gets more shonen-y but I still am enjoying it. I love *all* the characters in it, even though there were a lot of them I *thought* I wouldn’t like. (At this point, I think Hoshina is my favorite, but I am still very partial to Kafka and Ichikawa.)

Release Day at work today. I had all sorts of fun errors I hadn’t anticipated today (seriously, I think Git pulled out every merge error it could, including hitting size limits) but we have a new version of the Viewer out! And I am Tired. 😵

I probably should go to bed early tonight, as I have been feeling like I’m on the verge of getting sick all day, and I have a really busy/important day at work tomorrow.

Playing the oh-so-fun game of : is this chapter not gelling because A) these scenes are going to work better in the final chapters B) I’ve taken the story in the wrong direction, or C) I’m just exhausted at the moment and so everything seems like trash right now? #amWriting

Back home after a whirlwind weekend trip up to Nova Scotia with my Mum to visit my 102-year-old Great Aunt and our cousin. Despite the usual Mom chaos curse creating some technical car difficulties, we had a great visit, found Mum’s recently-deceased friend’s grave, and made it there/home safe.

Wrote a scene tonight. Might keep it, might not. That seems to be the way with my writing of late: write lots of scenes, keep the ones that work best together to show that I want the audience to learn. #amWriting

This looks super cool.

"Electro Andes" animated series by Bellolandia studio (Argentina) is in the works. Directed by Nacho Malter & Damian Fernandez Gomez. www.instagram.com/bellolandia

Wrote things in the Fic chapter today that I feel are actually making it work (as opposed to throwing a scene at the wall and hoping it sticks)! It’s a backstory penultimate episode, and I’m *finally* nailing down the details of the villain for this very written-published-serially story. #amWriting

Went with C to see the 40th Anniversary showing of the Transformers Movie, since it’s his favorite movie (still has his VHS tape). It still holds up pretty well, actually! The catchphrase was very well-played: “40 years later, still hits like a truck.”. There was also a nice tribute to Peter Cullen.

We ran into a bunch of college-ish age kids. One was a really big fan who brought along a bunch of his friends. They asked if I could take a photo. C: I’m sorry, I have to ask. How old were you when this came out? Fan: …negative fifteen. (They then went on to have a short, nice conversation.)

It was *a week* at work, with my body hating me, followed by a weekend of family visiting (who are early risers) and a tree with a 7-foot circumference falling over in our yard at 4:45am yesterday (we’re ok). C and I are going to a movie at 7pm tonight. My circadian rhythm is currently: “wtf, mate”.

Probably mixed. I have yet to accomplish *any* major goal or desire I have set for myself as an adult. (Getting the Ph.D. was a stepping-stone, even though it IS an accomplishment.) Good *unplanned* things have happened though, like the husband and moving back home. Frustrating for a young idealist.

Day 5 of off-and-on (hormonal) headache with photosensitivity that is just bad enough to be distracting, and I’m like F everything. (I feel so much for those of you who deal with actual bad migraines on a regular basis.)

I don’t use antibacterial hand soap on any regular basis because my doctor told me *not to* but people should know about this. (Regular soap and scrubbing does the job, and antibac soap contributes to overuse that results in resistant bacteria)

Scripps News@scrippsnews.bsky.social

The FDA has issued a recall for certain soaps because they could contain bacteria. If you use the contaminated soap, the bacteria could enter your body through cuts and cracks in the skin.

Just finished reading The Experiment by Rebecca Stead. It’s a fun MG book about a boy who is keeping a big secret about being an alien. Tone stays relatively light (it’s MG so no surprise there), but the story feels meaningful. The mystery and twists were great; it kept me reading! #bookSky
