When they’re not writing and performing killer noise rock, Gilla Band’s Dara Kiely and Daniel Fox are closely following “Irish trash TV.” They sat down with Stereogum reality television correspondent Rachel Brown to talk us through one of their favorite hate-watches.

Drake is boycotting the Grammys again, but there are many other artists still eyeing Album Of The Year. Who do you think will win?

I went to a second gig before abandoning my car at the train station because I lost my fob at one of them. 🙃 Worldpeace DMT are touring behind their brand new sophomore LP and last night they played the first of two sold-out shows in Brooklyn. No “Stratocaster” sadly, but here’s some “Love You Too.”

Claud performed their entire new album ‘Me And The Music’ at a free show in NYC tonight. There were tarot readings before the set, and Claud also got one onstage. This song features Maya Polsky on guitar and, appropriately, is called “Spells And Fortune Tellers.”

Gilla Band, a 2015 Stereogum Band To Watch, also earned our Album Of The Week last month with the relentlessly abrasive ‘Pugnello.’ From Brooklyn tonight, this is “Alogia,” named for reduced speech commonly associated with schizophrenia. Dara Kiely wrote the lyrics around the time of his diagnosis.

ELO's 'A New World Record' and Converge's Jacob Bannon turn 50 years old today! 🥳 (Jacob was too young to enter The Great Electric Light Orchestra New World Record display competition.)

The Strokes’ debut album was released 25 years ago today in America. In 2011, to mark its 10th anniversary, Stereogum produced ‘STROKED: A Tribute To Is This It.’ The track-for-track covers album featured exclusive new recordings on MP3. Now you can find streams at stereogum.com/stroked.

Sean O'Hagan’s the High Llamas will stage ‘Hawaii’ in full in Dublin next spring. The chamber-pop masterpiece blew many minds 30 years ago, including Sondre Lerche, who’s gone on to work with O’Hagan for the past 25 years. The singer-songwriter told us why we should all be uplifting the High Llamas.

Tonight, the ferocious prog-psych trio SLIFT headlined Le Poisson Rouge, a good place to see French rock bands this fall. This is “A Storm Of Wings,” a Bulgakov-inspired standout from their new LP ‘Fantasia’ built on chugging riffs, shifting time signatures, and Jean Fossat’s impressive wail.

I don’t hate it 😄

The Police’s final studio recording was released 40 years ago today. “Don’t Stand So Close To Me ’86” was a newer wave take on their 1980 hit with Stewart Copeland programming a Fairlight CMI and Andy Summers experimenting with a guitar synthesizer. youtu.be/VIpC3ZqdjYo?...

Kim Gordon addressed AI on “DIRTY TECH,” so I asked her about Suno, which lets users generate songs in artists’ styles. I was delighted to finally meet my birthday twin in the final months of humanity. I noted that we share a birthday with Saddam Hussein. She already knew that. Kim Gordon knows all.

Solange wanted Tom to interview her for this release, but then there was a crisis once we published it! Happy 10th anniversary to someone giving a devastated Solange my phone number. Great album.

These albums by Solange, Jenny Hval, Bon Iver, and Nicolas Jaar came out 10 years ago today. Which is your fave?

I talked to Starcleaner Reunion about forging a shared love of Stereolab in high school, yearning for the pre-internet indie underground, and incorporating everything from banjo to burning candles on their stellar debut album UMBRELLA, out today

stereogum.comUnder Starcleaner Reunion's 'Umbrella,' A Lifetime Of Music Geek CamaraderieWhen they popped up a few years back with a pair of accomplished EPs, Starcleaner Reunion were an alluring, disorienting proposition. The band name alone raised questions: Reunion, you say? What exact...

In Bridgeport tonight, Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts played their first concert in over a year. But first Young came out during Willie Nelson’s set, and the two did “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?,” their duet from 1985, the year they co-founded Farm Aid. They’ll both play the ‘26 edition on Sat.

Earlier this year, Athens musician @shaneparish.bsky.social released 'Autechre Guitar.’ It’s a collection that, as the title suggests, reimagines tracks by the legendary IDM duo for acoustic guitar. Parish brought the album to Making Time ∞ and spoke with @tddvsss.bsky.social after his set.

Though he did participate in a seemingly spontaneous noise jam at an Athens vintage market in 2023, Deerhunter and Atlas Sound’s Bradford Cox has stayed out of the public eye this decade. Today, he returned to the stage with all new material at Philly’s Making Time ∞ – his first show in seven years.

That was “Akron.” This one’s “Octoberland.” Bradford Cox played bass, hand bells, and a sampler, and he seemed in great spirits. He led “Happy Birthday” to his mom Edie, who turns 80 today, and thanked Making Time ∞’s Dave P: “If it weren’t for him I might’ve stayed at home for another seven years.”

In my old apt building, the garage stored 36 Corvettes Peter Max bought in 1990 off a guy who won them in a VH-1 sweepstakes. One for every year from 1953 to 1989. His plan was to paint them in psychedelic styles but he got busy so they just lived in Brooklyn, collecting dust for many years. R.I.P.

Peter Max, who shaped the look of psychedelia, died Monday at the age of 88. He is most famous for iconic poster for New York City’s 1967 ‘Be In.’
