First go with the much-hyped anthropic model of the moment ... kinda disappointing? "Add pi to this devcontainer" - adds a nested mount for its config over the top of an existing mount, breaks devcontainer, live patches it to sort of work, rubs its hands together in satisfaction ☠️

to be clear I use coding agents a bunch and find them v. useful, but still feel like the folks who refer to this stuff as "intelligence on tap" must be doing completely different stuff to me?

as far as coding agents go, pi is amazing. The malleability of the thing. I would _love_ to see a serious IDE built with the same "foundational primitives + easy extensibility" in mind

Excited to pop over the pond to talk about Rust & Java in just over a month @devoxx.uk !

Had a chuckle, but honestly for folk who haven’t already learnt how to Build Stuff Goodly, this is a bit terrifying - the obligation to use the tools to _go fast_, without ever building a the muscles to properly supervise them

honestly very funny to see the line "We find that AI use impairs conceptual understanding, code reading, and debugging abilities, without delivering significant efficiency gains on average" in a study paid for by anthropic inc

I switched a bunch of stuff I was running in the #homelab from k3s to plain old docker-compose, and dropped from 20% idle CPU usage to < 4%. CPU now spending about 80% of of its time in C7! I don't _need_ k8s for this stuff, and power is expensive, so ....

Thrilled to announce chapter 09 of the Rust Lambda book. In this one, we cover all things observability. If you're struggling to really understand your serverless applications, this one's the one for you. @loige.co 👀 #serverless #rust #rustlang rust-lambda.com

rust-lambda.comCrafting Lambda Functions in Rust - eBook by Luciano Mammino and James EasthamA practical guide on how to build efficient, sustainable, cost-effective serverless AWS solutions with the Rust programming language.

James Eastham and my latest video on software dev is up! We try to distill down when it makes sense and when not to microservice, hopefully without alienating too many folks. Have a listen and let us know what you think!

It's a great debate in modern software, do you need microservices? Or will a monolith be enough for what you need. In the latest video in our modern software engineering series @scottgerring.com and me discuss exactly this. youtu.be/zUhrBYH0zyw #softwareengineering #software #development

Yup

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software. Just fuck you. Fuck you all. I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

US State Department abolishing use of "Calibri" in documents because it is quote too diverse end quote is the most absurdly The Onion news I have read this year, and that is saying something

Google Slides diff view is surprisingly good? You can click through changes, and you get a big coloured box around what shifted. ... I kinda assume decent diffing was never gonna be a thing for presentations that _aren't_ written in some md/js framework

"look up and stay present" .. by "collaborating with visual Meta AI prompts" projected between your eyes and the folks _in the real world you are notionally trying to stay present with_. I don't understand if they are trying to redefine what 'present' means or they are just too deep in this rubbish
