Walter Scott & Hugh MacDiarmid could scarcely have had more opposing visions of Scotland’s past, present & future – or could they? James Robertson & Alex Linklater discuss these two cultural giants & their respective projects for inventing or reinventing the nation www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMXt...

'Rain on Princes Street,' is one of a small number of Fururist pictures Stanley Cursiter painted in 1913 which capture the sensation of modern life: people, colours, objects, and sounds - these works brought him major critical attention at home.

Sarah's excellent essay, 'Women and the Saltire Society, from the 1930s to the 1950s', looks at the significant contribution made to the formation and development of the Saltire Society by several women.

My essay, 'A "vigilance society for Scottish culture": The Saltire Society and the Scottish Literary Renaissance', examines the connections between the Saltire Society and the Renaissance from the Society's formation in 1936 through to the early 1960s.

We should read, analyse and celebrate Violet Jacob's manifold work - poet, novelist, short-story writer, diarist, artist - so much more than we do currently in Scotland.

Great to see this new volume on the work of Hugh MacDiarmid is now published. My chapter, '“The Omnific Word”: Hugh MacDiarmid’s Religious Poetry', claims his poetry is distinguished by a “religious atheism” characteristic of modernism.
