Happy Monday! As always, I'm available at scottnover.99 on signal if you have any juicy tips about the media or its relationship with the government.

NEW: Press groups on Monday sued the Trump administration, alleging in federal court that attempting to bar media outlets from the White House violates the First Amendment rights of ordinary citizens to access information about the U.S. government. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Very proud that our investigative story on the killing of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was recognized as a finalist for an @amejaglobal.bsky.social award last night. All the credit to colleagues @megkelly.bsky.social, Suzan Haidamous, and Mohamad El Chamaa and our excellent editors.

New: The White House has taken aggressive new swipes at the press — barring The Independent reporter Andrew Feinberg from press pool duty, and sending a threatening letter to Politico about its Susie Wiles coverage. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

New: White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia calls herself a lawyer. There’s no evidence she was admitted to practice law in the United States, and legal experts say foreign citizens cannot take the bar in China. My deep dive: www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

NEW: The plaintiffs fighting against the Trump administration's campaign-style ads filed a notice with the court alerting it to The Washington Post's reporting earlier today, which revealed the government ran ads many hours after the Sunday evening deadline imposed by the judge.

Happening now: U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly hears arguments in the White House media ban case. Lawyers for CNN, MS NOW and Politico are asking the judge to convert issue a preliminary injunction, extending the order that prevented these bans from taking effect.

The close the loop: The judge extended the TRO until Tuesday, when he expects to rule on the PI. (Just a logistical thing.) He seemed to reiterate that he's bound be precedent in the circuit.

UPDATE: After deciding this weekend to block Politico from riding on Air Force One, White House staffers called numerous outlets to ask one to fill the primary print slot for the out-of-town pool rotation. Each of those outlets declined to step in. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
