buttondown.com/cooray_smith... I've had what might be a new, and possibly even significant, thought about Doctor Who's late 1980s cancellation. This is a free subscribers e-mail, and free to read on the site too, but if you agree, why not become a paid subscriber? Or indeed, even if you don't.
5 Simpsons lines I’ve said most: 1. “Let’s do it to it” 2. “Nothing could possib-lie go wrong” 3. “Ahoy hoy” 4. “I’m gonna do X and if you get in the way, that’s your own fault” 5. “We’re in the Itchy lot” Honourable mention to the “I dunno” noise the sloth makes when Homer travels through time.
The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head 1. “Consarn it!” 2. “Don’t make me run, I’m full of chocolate!” 3. “GET THAT CAT OUT OF THE WAY!” 4. [Beatles voice] “Help us, help us…” 5. “Done and done! And I mean done.”

The nerve of calling artists and writers gatekeepers. We are the ones who live our LIVES around "that's too weird, too non-commercial, too focused on [minority], too like the thing we produced one of five years ago." The "gate" that we are keeping? Literally just "Do the actual fucking work."

@fabthepodcast.bsky.social Earlier I said ‘we’re nearly there’ to my partner and it took everything I had not to put that aggressively French stank on it
@jonmelville.bsky.social Did you know this was a thing? I’m gonna have to see if I can get one

I’m delighted to report that I’ve written about Doctor Who for the Radio Times! It’s been getting good comments so far, with some people saying it’s the first non-histrionic coverage they’ve seen of the latest development. www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/do...
Apologies to anybody who follows me on multiple social media platforms but I’m sharing this where I can: I wrote an article about Everybody Wants Some!! for the Guardian. www.theguardian.com/film/2026/ma...

Calling historians and researchers. The BBC Written Archives Centre has changed its access rules without consultation. This means an end to proper independent research into the BBC's rich history. 178 have already signed the open letter. Please join the campaign here: tinyurl.com/bbcwaccampaign
@wheezingpod.bsky.social Just listening to Death to the Daleks, did anyone ever make fan art of the ‘male Dalek in prison looking at poster of female Dalek’ situation?
@felixfrazer.bsky.social Interested to hear what your Empire of Death bugbear was? (I didn’t want to reply to your post directly as Scott Handcock was tagged in it)
It’s been literal years but I’m finally dipping my toes back in the water of creative writing with my review of Scott Handcock’s Empire of Death Target novelisation: thedoctorwhocompanion.com/2025/07/19/r...
@garybrannan.bsky.social Are you reading the Brian Clemens archive features in SFX? Last month they had his idea for a Who episode and this month they’ve featured his ideas for Bond projects. Seems like the sort of thing that would be up your street!
@tobyhadoke.bsky.social Somebody asked on Reddit, do you know whatever happened to the actor Peter Fraser who played David Campbell in Dalek Invasion of Earth? (The commenter mentioned you by name as someone who might know.)
Scumbag behaviour from Showmasters here.
Showmasters (London Film Comic Con) have posted a video of trying to get Craig Charles out of his room (with his room number showing) because he called in ill to the event and they don't trust him to not be hungover and letting people down. BLOODY HELL. So much for caring for his well-being.
