Not surprising, but completely disgusting. SSI payments are already way below what any adult needs to survive in the United States; people can only survive on it without being homeless if they're in public housing or have friends/family to rely on for housing. This hurts people who have the latter.

So October 23, 1995, as an 8-year-old kid with cerebral palsy, I underwent an orthopedic surgery which put me in a body cast and left me immobile for 6-8 weeks. I was pulled out of school for the year. It was an incredibly dark time, but it gave me an understanding of freedom can't be replicated.
