SB 601 aims to restore the same protections to California’s wetlands that the Clean Water Act did for 50+ years, currently threatened thanks to a 2023 Supreme Court ruling (Sackett v. EPA). Here is how severely San Diego’s water could be impacted if this bill does not pass.

We think @benallenca said it best: SB 601 is β€œa common-sense measure that simply restores the protections that our waterways have always enjoyed since 1948.” Read more about how this legislation aims to #ProtectCAWater in the LA Times: www.latimes.com/environment/....

COASTAL EROSION: A REALITY WE CANNOT IGNORE πŸ“ From Rosarito to Coronado, coastal erosion and wastewater pollution threaten our shores. According to a diagnosis conducted between 2023 and 2024, 64% of the studied area in Mexico faces a high risk of erosion, compared to just 0.8% in the U.S.

πŸ”Ž The lack of research and monitoring on the Mexican side has hindered an objective assessment of current and projected erosion risks along the coastline. In the U.S., there is a stronger emphasis on generating and making relevant information accessible on these issues.

We're excited to follow this. πŸ’§ "The model's ability to provide a more holistic assessment of extreme rain and snow storm risk could inform infrastructure planning, insurance assessment and emergency preparedness." #stormwater #infrastructure

Clean rivers, streams, and wetlands are essential for healthy drinking water, fisheries, and coasts. Thank you, Senator Ben Allen, for introducing the Right to Clean Water Act and setting the foundation for healthy California water for all. #ProtectCAWater

Anyone who’s strolled the #LaJolla shoreline in the past few weeks might have noticed some new residents! 🦭 That’s rightβ€”baby harbor seals are back! πŸ₯Ή There are currently about 24 pups at #ChildrensPool. As cute as they are clumsy, it’s definitely worth a trip to say hi from a safe distance.

Protecting the rookery in Children’s Pool during pupping season (Dec 15 - May 15) has been very successful. This ensures seals have a safe place to rest, congregate & rear their young while providing an iconic setting for millions of yearly visitors to safely observe them in their natural habitat.

Do you live, work or visit the beaches or coast area in San Diego, Tijuana or Rosarito? 😷 πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» You now have the opportunity to share your experience and help drive solutions to the wastewater pollution crisis by participating in a new research study.

🀝 @SD_Coastkeeper and Proyecto Fronterizo de Educación Ambiental (PFEA) have partnered on a bi-national project called #OneCoastOneCommunity. We're working with researchers from Cal State San Marcos to understand how water & air quality impact people who've spent time near the beach or coast area.

Early signs of *potentially* concerning heavy rain event in SoCal wildfire zones next week (~Feb 14). *Uncertainty is high,* & range of outcomes at this early juncture is from virtually nothing to high-end flash flood/debris flow threat. But consider this an early heads-up. #CAwx
