The last known photograph taken by Jemima Stoat, a little-known pioneer of colour photography, around 1875. She worked alongside Hermann Vogel and, some say, helped him advance his work in dye sensitisation. She experimented with out-of-focus subjects, believing them to better capture her subject.

A pneumatophore belonging to a Bald Cypress. Taken with my A6700 with a 9mm f/2.8 lens and a half-second exposure. It looks like fire, but I had to kneel in soggy turf to take this picture. #EastCoastKin #ICM #AbstractPhotography #CypressKnees #Autumn

I just invested in a smaller camera to have in my pocket rather than lugging around a camera bag. It's a 2nd hand A6700 with the flare magnet Viltrox 28mm f/4.5 fixed aperture lens that I bought a while back and never fell in love with. As this is an APS-C body, my lens behaves like a 42mm f/6.7!

I was in a 12th-century village in August and thought I'd do some street pics. When I got back to the rental, the best picture in the batch was me putting an ND filter on. So, if you love medieval architecture, I give you... My hand! #selfportrait #photography #ECK

Mallard in the Loing. The ducks near the bridge at Grez-sur-Loing are so used to humans that they often approach to see what you have for them. #BlueSkyMonday #EastCoastKin #Photography

The bridge in Grez-sur-Loing has been painted so many times. I liked the play of sunlight under one of its arches. #BlueSkyArtShow #ClassicMono #ECK

Six months in the making. I have just delivered the final version of my concert film to Murray. I will be sharing excerpts on social media once it has been approved.

We have a Mirabelle plum tree at the end of our garden, with which Mrs D uses to make jam. We got over 10kg from the tree; birds scoffed the rest.

I was at the checkout at Lidl when this happened. I can spend days preparing a picture then hours taking it then half a dry in post to achieve a result less interesting than this. [sighs]

I put my phone in selfie mode and my cat took the pictures. OK, he rubbed his whiskers on the edge of my phone and photos were taken. He'll be wanting an instagram profile next...

In this part of France, it's illegal to refuse a glass of beer or wine at lunchtime. As a law-abiding citizen I'm having a half of the local brew...

Early morning impressions The sun rising just enough over the hills across the valley to glance the house we are staying in with warm light

A recent event extinguished something childlike in me. I shared something with someone I thought a friend. True friends offer a safe space to share vulnerability. Not only did they betray my trust; they mocked me for having shared. Since this event, I have completely lost interest in photography.

Last night's storm was magnificent! Rolling thunder and lightning were constant. Apparently, this is a Mesoscale Convective System where cloud cells roll overhead striking one another.

I've found a crafty way of swimming 1.3km in seawater without ever being out of my depth! I just have to make sure to swim at high tide otherwise I'm sloshing around in mud!

Three survivors of medieval Capbreton: the Maison du Rey (15th C), where Henri de Navarre, future Henri IV, stayed in 1583; and the timber-framed Maisons des Anglais, among the last traces of a once-thriving port at the Adour's old mouth. #Landes #History #Capbreton
