I can finally get some good night sleep.

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

Finally got a successful .dmg installer today that is signed by Kinogaki Inc. and notarized by Apple. Which means I was able to install it on my wife’s older Mac and find some visual bugs. The good news - the release is very close, and there is clear path to it.

Ok hear me out: Voldemort - Benedict Cumberbatch Snape - Adam Driver Mad-Eye - Daniel Craig McGonagall - Tilda Swinton Mrs. Weasley - Kate Winslet Bellatrix Lestrange - Eva Green Dumbledore - Christian Bale Sirius Black - Edward Norton Lucius Malfoy - Tom Hiddleston

Much needed addition to our social medial

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

Not sure how active I'll be at first, but will invest more and more time into this as soon as I release the software properly. Anyway here is our official Discord server. I will try to answer questions in asynchronous manner as much as I can. discord.gg/ZTxYW7AM

I can't believe it, but I did #genuary1 fully inside Kinogaki. This spanned a lot of improvements, nodes, ideas and so on. I also added ability to name nodes and write comments so that when you share other people can understand.

Still working on recreating #genuary1. This is an amazing exercise that prompted a lot of good changes. Third screenshot are the nodes inside the For Loop node. Wait until you see what a "Code" node can do :)

One important thing that I’ve learned, but have hit or miss applying in real life is this. When you look at your code/product/artwork and get this tingly feeling at the back of your head saying that there is this little thing that’s off, you should always fix it.

Our brains are amazing storytellers and will guide us around the problem. But know this - others will notice it. It’s by ignoring these little things, we fill the world with ‘ok’ products, mediocre artworks and build technical debt in our projects.

It’s fixing every single tingly thing that makes for perfect product. There is nothing else to it. So next time, when you notice the fleeting glimpse that flew past you at warp speed, don’t be lazy and catch it. Once caught - fix the hell out of it.

Most of the time the moment after that one you’ll get justification from your brain as to why it’s not important to fix it immediately or why it’s not a big deal at all. The truth is that the problem is real. It’s just small.

As means for testing KINOGAKI, I'll power through Genuary once again using only it, just to make sure it's working. Will also publish all of the scene files as well.

What's interesting is the difference between software dictating you what to do vs you dictating the software what you want. Very different dynamic. Because I'm recreating specific things I did for #genuary I need to change/add new workflows to Kinogaki.

Doing the little things...

Some new UI changes in the node editor to show progress for nodes that take long to process (in this case generating millions of lines) and just generally more visual feedback to what's going on. BTW (this is just a tiny crop with line thickness of 0.01mm) If I zoom out - it's just a solid black box

I’m moving a long. A lot of improvements, bug fixes and features. Maybe next week I’ll post installers and a few more videos. There is a node that allows you to write code (which compiles to machine code), there are nodes that allow to do for loops as well. Exciting stuff…

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

Finally got DUNS number for Apple Developer account. Hopefully will get certificates to sign the code soon. Meanwhile, I’ve been adding quality of life features, like duplicating nodes, grouping, copy pasting. There are multiple context now - vector, image, field and color with different nodes.

My total count of new lines of code for today is a negative number and I’m proud. The simpler everything is the more reliable it is. Can’t wait to share with you all an updated version.

Absolutely. There are plans for a whole context to process images and then use them to influence various parameters. Also nodes for color, physics, there are loops. There is also Code node that I’ll record a video on next.

LB ALLIX@lb-allix.bsky.social

Nice, do you plan to add a node to open an image to use as a mask or to give background data like lightness, color or directing the lines for exemple?

Releasing an app that people can install is apparently witchcraft. A lot of waiting on certificates, DUNS number, and what now. Good news - that the desktop version is so stable and fast - it's almost indescribably better experience compared to the web version I published.

While I'm working on creating installers for Mac and Windows, here is another video that talks a little bit about Edit Node. youtu.be/-pCTI7Ytpzs

I generally dislike using AI when I code. Only use it on boilerplate code (simple in logic but long to type) o3-mini is really good. It started to change my mind. It feels like it’s inspired by the code that’s already there so it looks and reads the way I would’ve written it. Really interesting.

This is really cool

Day 21 of #genuary2025: “Create a collision detection system (no libraries allowed).” This is one I overlooked. Sheets falling on top of other sheets and the occasional ball. #genuary

I’m just gonna chill the rest of the evening. So much potential now that I have a solid graphics engine.

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

Rewriting this with OpenGL4.1 totally paid off. I’m able to deal with about few million lines that just makes my canvas into a solid, while having good pan and zoom on a laptop.

It is out! Go check it out. My dm's are open - I'll be happy to hear comments suggestions and just chat about it. There are lots of things to do. Lot's of things are planned and in the works, but for now I feel like it's time to release it into the wild.

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

The intro video is up and so is the app. Just bear in mind - it's such an early alpha. If you have suggestions or want to chat about it - my dm's are always open. We're also working on desktop app - so stay tuned. But a web version for now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5V5...

Ahh - the struggles of a different point of view. It’s gonna be good though!

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

We’re recording a five minute video walk through. It’s amazing how many things we’ve changed while doing a beginner intro video.

Should have a minimal demo you all can try in hopefully a week or so.

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

The road to success is paved with obstacles. We’re rewriting some major portion of the app to make it easy to distribute and try out on all kinds of systems.

Plotted some Op Art for #genuary19 using KINOGAKI app. #genuary #plotterart #penplotter

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

New nodes and good progress on shapes, filling and trimming. Also results of the tree can be saved into a file and loaded in another tree, like in this example with the signature.

A bit late to #genuary14 all black and white submission. Below is a very quick demo of KINOGAKI app that’s currently in development. #genuary #penplotter #plotterart

KINOGAKI@kinogaki.bsky.social

A quick demo with a few nodes of #kinogaki software showing it generating line work for #plotterart in realtime.

Day 17 of Genuary 2025 Prompt: What happens if pi=4? In the software I use to generate this I wrote custom sin/cos functions that accept arbitrary PI value. From top to bottom it goes from 3.14 to 4.0 while drawing a circle. #genuary #genuary2025 #genuary17 #plotterart #penplotter

I've added custom xsin and xcos functions to scripting capabilities of "plot" and now I can show how things change when PI slowly becomes 4.0. Just need to color this and plot. This code runs per each point created by a point_grid.

This may as well be the most important node I write. It's using LUA in the background, but I will augment it so that it's more C like syntax without 'then' and 'end'

Day 16 of Genuary 2025 Prompt: Generative Palette It didn't come across on a photograph, but it's there. I promise #genuary #genuary2025 #genuary16 #plotterart #penplotter

Day 15 of Genuary 2025 Prompt: Design a rug.. Experimenting with the next iteration of my software. This was a lot of fun to do, since it's now realtime. #genuary #genuary2025 #genuary15 #plotterart #penplotter
